Re: Think i found my truck mabey??

Contact the owner and get more pictures and info until you're satisfied and go from there.

One time I was looking at a '70 on CL and it only had one picture. The 'good side' was all that showed and it turned out the whole driver side was rusted and destroyed and the interior was even worse. Save the gas money and time and call or text him for more info. Better safe than sorry.

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??

Yeah, I agree, the price does seem high, although if it's really as clean, rust-free, and original as seller indicates, maybe not too out of line. Looks like it has a mild lift on it, though. Is that an original paint scheme?

If it's that close, worth a look-see.

I don't think that's original paint colors. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??

You guys out west are spoiled a clean 68 4x4 with a paint job( not a restore ) gets a higher price.than that.Got a guy locally that wants 16,000 for a really nice 70. For 500 you get one with no motor trans and a broken frame lol. Buying classics in michigan is rough.

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??

If it's rust free then maybe a premium could be justified but that seems kinda high to me. I would say $4000 maybe $4500 tops but if you're desperate to find one who knows.

What's not worth to you?

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??

seems about right price wise for a original swb 4x4 with no or minimal rust. Get a pic of the spid and see if the silver is original. I'd assume rust, dents and bondo if repainted until you get eyes and a magnet on it.

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??

Well if it's actually only 48,000 instead of 148,000 or 248,000 original miles on it.. it's not a bad price,(and as long as the interior is in excellent shape).

...& the likelihood that being original paint carries the same odds as those rims & tires being original, or me winning the mega millions lottery... what? ..some 300 million to one...

..."Be careful of what people tell you.. moreso, be careful what you believe!"

But I'd still own a truck like that & be happy for it.

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??

You can have my 72 longbed for that price
I think 70 still had the closed knuckle drum brake front, but finding a D44 from a later truck is pretty easy.
These things rust from the inside out, so even if you can't see it, it's probably still there.
Solid looking truck though...

open knuckles in '70- it was the 1st year. the rarity of a 70 vs 71/72 makes up for not having discs, at least for me value wise.

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??

A 71 or 72 might bring that price a little closer to being acceptable for the fact of having disc brakes

Now disc brakes aren't that big of a deal to convert there are plenty ignitions but it's still a project you have to tackle then you're looking at being into it what 7200? Or more

Bottom line it's too rich for me but if you go with a pocket full of hundred dollar bills he might come down to a reasonable price

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??

my 2 cents. you're close enough, go look at it in person. get under it and look closely. take a flashlight if you need to. check the cab corners underneath, check the bed underneath and have him take you for a ride if you can. check the steering and look at the front end. but don't take the guys word for anything, see for yourself if it's actually worth the money

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??

45-minute drive is nothing. Go look at it in person. I'd crawl all over the thing. Check the SPID; get underneath and check the cab corners and typical rust areas. Confirm the VIN tag and verify the same on the frame. It's very tough to access the engine casting numbers because the engine is set back near the firewall on the 4X4. My 70 K10 has D44 open knuckle drum brake front end. As far as price is concerned, I would be all over that truck. Prices in the Buffalo, NY area are high compared to a lot of other areas. I guess because of our hard winters. There were only about 2,500 SWB K10 4X4's built in 1970 (if I remember correctly). Something to seriously consider. However, as others have warned… Don't take what the guy says as gospel. Check it out on your own in person.

THIS. VERY FEW 67-72 swb 4x4's were ever built. There's a lot around, but most are converted long beds. Check to see that the frame hasn't been cut down. I can see the front of the fender wells are squared off, so the actual bed is a short bed, so that just leaves the frame... check the glovebox decal for wheelbase and VIN number (to decode).

If it's a rust free original swb 4x4, his price is actually somewhat fair (I'd try to be around 5500-6K for it). If it's a cut down longbed I think 4K is more reasonable.

If he's not responding, he may have sold it, but didn't care enough to take the time to remove the ad.

Well, since it has aftermarket wagon wheel rims and he says "the only thing not original is the edelbrock carb" he either doesn't know much at all about these trucks or is lying....if its' from Nevada it could have a solid body but also could have rusted in the few years it's been in your back yard pending how its' been used....

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??

Okay here are some pictures, what do you guys think. few dents etc. What I don't like is he said its all original but the steering wheel is after market, and shouldn't the tailgate say chevy? also is that a stock rear bumper? what about the bench seat? I see the dash cracked.

Now I know switching tailgate, bumper, wheels, steering wheel is all easy stuff I just wanna make sure im getting a 6,000 dollar truck that's worth my wild. Ive been looking for a swb k10. I really like the 71-72 styles but I would settle for a 70. I wanna hear everyones input as you can prolly get more out of the pictures than i.

The tailgate is a cheap aftermarket without the lettering. It's likely the original rusted or was dented and he replaced...only to find out the first batch of aftermarket ones were very thin metal. The current ones from Keyparts/Triplus are fine but this looks thin by the denting in it. It also is obviously a re-spray so the paint isn't original either....did you look under the truck and under the doors to see how rusty it is?

The bench seat appears stock with an aftermarket slip over cover. The bumper likely was a dealer add-on....it's not the correct sport bumper but many trucks came with no bumper and the dealer added them so it is likely that could be the bumper the truck was sold with.

71-72 is an easy appearance change with just the outer and inner grill and the grill support and hood latch....and front bumper.

I know the swb 4x4 trucks are rare and expensive because of that, but I'd have a hard time paying more than 2500-3000 for that truck. Did you look closely to the frame to make sure it wasn't cut down? Did the suspension look like factory 70 4x4 or possibly a later model frame it was added to that makes it a 4wd (common to see). Buyer beware with all the "original" on this not being original....

Re: Think i found my truck mabey??

Did you get the VIN? That would tell if it's a factory 4x4 and if it still has the glovebox door that will definitely tell if it was a swb or lwb.

Question Re: Think i found my truck mabey??

No I have not yet gone and seen this truck in person, these are just pictures he has sent me. Now I know he is asking around 6800 for this truck and I cant see paying over 5k idk how low I can get him if I bring 100 dollar bills. I will check the truck out extensively when I go look at it this weeked. My plans for the truck would be original wheels plus 33x10.5 or 12.5 tires ,tailgate, steering wheel, fix the dents, and paint her chevy red and mabey do a grill swap. Just looking for a good truck to restore kinda on a budjet and use it for hunting, fishing, mabey haul some wood etc. I want too build a truck to use it as a truck not a garage queen ya know. If it has no rust and everything else seems original ( factory swb,4x4) besides what we pointed out what is a real world value on this truck? I know that's kind of a matter of opinion there? This is a non ac cab also

Hate buying something I want from a tard lol, I'll keep y'all posted, would like a few more opinions on the truck from some experienced members please!
