72 gmc 2500 info?
Hi guys as the title states I'm looking for info about the 72 gmc 2500. One has come up for sale in my area and I'm thinking about picking it up.
What I want to turn it into is an autocrosser that I can drive on the street as well. So my main questions are: the 2500 is 3/4 ton right? Also what are the differences between 1/2 ton and 3/4 frames? Would bolting a high end crossmember onto a 3/4 ton frame be any different? Also did the 2500's come with leaf springs or coils? Its also a camper special if that helps. Thanks for any help |

Yes it is a 3/4 ton and probably has leaf springs a maybe even helpers as well.
The 3/4 ton frame is heavier than a 1/2 ton by about 25% By "high end crossmember" you are speaking about a drop notch kit, it should be very workable. Others will have to help you on that. However I do guestion trying to use a probably 4500lb truck as a base for an autocross. It doesn't sound much better than a Austin Mini pickup for hauling cement. While anything can be done including a complete replacement chassis there are probably better choices. I'd recommend doing more research. If it matters to you these are the Chevy frame numbers which I believe are the same. C Blazer C10 115" C10 127" 6.04" height 2.53" flange width 0.156" thick 2.98 section modulus C20 127" 6.11" height 2.46" flange width 0.194" thick 3.71 section modulus

Well that is a start, extrapolating a bit that is probably about 130lb. :-)
A stripper manual everything, but including disc brakes and a V8, 1/2 ton swb curbs at about 3700lb.

Haha maybe not autocrossing but maybe take it around a road course. I want to go with a No Limit Wideride kit
