Wood Bed Stain Colour?
Hey I am really having a tough time deciding on a stain colour for my 67 Chevy.
I have the Oak bed kit from LMC and my truck is black with medium blue interior. Thoughts?

Re: Wood Bed Stain Colour?
Stock would have been black paint over black sealer. But since you seem to be wanting a furniture bed then I'd suggest an ebony stain to bring out the wood grain but not make it look so out of place. Black with Blue interiors are one of my favorite combos. Unfortunately I don't have any ebony stained or ebony wood bed pictures saved. However I do have a nice blue bed to illustrate the concept. What are you doing with the strips?

Re: Wood Bed Stain Colour?
Yeah I am going for the furniture bed look haha. I just want it to pop if you know what I mean. Nice shine! My strips are stainless an was thinking about giving them a quick polish and seeing how it looks with what I have.
If I go with the black stock look I am just thinking to myself that it is too much black or am I just over thinking it? That ebony with black strips looks pretty bad ass as well.

Re: Wood Bed Stain Colour?
There are a lot of ways to go with this. Stainless strips in hand pretty much dictate a brushed or polished finish as an easy out. If you already bought oak you might as well enjoy the grain. But a really dark body color stain like register's truck (the post29 link) is my favorite look. It would look great with strips of either finish in stainless or a black powder/paint. Too much black is a very subjective call. While all black paint is the most correct (pictured). An ebony stain and black strips will give a very subtle upgrade. Stainless of course ups the bling factor. Your choice but with a black truck I would be more concerned with too light a bed than a walk on the dark side.

Re: Wood Bed Stain Colour?
if you do decide too do the ebony you can vary the darkness with more or fewer coats.
I saw on overhaulin where chip lightly sprayed some black on the wood and sanded most of it off but it stayed in the grain an looked very cool. tim the pic of the blue tint bed is awesome.i was planing the same but with green instead.

Re: Wood Bed Stain Colour?
Color would be a matter of taste. Went with red walnut stain on my oak planks.
It's a truck! Don't be afraid to use it as one.

Re: Wood Bed Stain Colour?
I think the ebony color with the stainless would pop. I agree with most that bringing out the grain is the key.

Re: Wood Bed Stain Colour?
This thread reminds me that I need to do my annual bed wood reconditioning. A week sitting in my dry garage, half an hour with some steel wool, and two coats of one step poly/stain. Been thinking of changing to satin black on the oak because I have a extra can of it.
