Tail Light wiring
Ok guys for the last 3 weeks I have been living in that search bar at the top of the page!! I started off with all of my light pretty much doing whatever they wanted. But now that I have got the fronts working right, my taillights are giving me fits.
With the headlight switch on, I do not have any parking, brake, or turn signals. My license plate light is on though. With the switch off I do have brake, and turn signals but they are dim. I am hoping for a simple ground issue being the case. What are your thoughts/suggestions? Thanks |

Re: Tail Light wiring
You have grounding problems, run ground straps from frame to box, and if you already have them, remove the bolts from the grounding strap and clean, grind, or wire wheel surfaces for a good ground. it will most likely solve your problem. if you still have some that dont function make your self a wire with aligator clips on each end, hook one end to the back of the light socket and touch different spots of the truck to make a good ground. if it lights, then you know if the socket is grounded to the rest of the truck or not...

Re: Tail Light wiring
So is it best to run wires on both side or just the drivers side?? Does anyone know the size the screws are for the housing. Maybe I have some stainless ones here at work.

Re: Tail Light wiring
Sounds like a ground issue to me also. Look hard you will find it. Clean and check all your grounds on the chassis and at the lights.

Re: Tail Light wiring
Got em working guys. I won't be having that issue for a very long time. I'm guessing the issue was the the bed had no ground. I moved the wire that I previously put in to the frame and now they work. So I changed all my ground points in the back to 0 guage wire, and grounded the bed. Thanks for the advice fellas

Re: Tail Light wiring
I had the same issue , no tail lights , put a ground in and they work great .I think wooden beds are especially bad for this , strange I could find no existing factory installed ground wires
