I disconnected from the rag joint and I can feel a little bit of play in the rod. when I'm driving its pretty tight to the left so when I turn to the right seems to have a little bit of play all my parts are new in the front end new gearbox also any help would be appreciated.. 72 chevy

Re: play in steering column shaft
I'd send it back and get a good one. These cheap columns have plastic u joints that break on you, leaving you without any steering. If it's new enough, you may be able to get your money back. I just installed a van tilt in mine, it took very little modification and works like new. $40 on craigslist. Best upgrade yet, other than power discs.
Good luck and don't trust that column. They are banned in some countries because of these cheap u joints.

Re: play in steering column shaft
The joint that fails in those Chinese steering columns is the one that's up inside where the column tilts.

Buy a rebuilt one from Les Boatright. He does great work and he is a board member.

Re: play in steering column shaft
the tilt works fine it's the shaft that connects to the rag joint and steering column its a CPP adjustable shaft and seems to have just a little bit of play in it
