Front Sway Bar Question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am about to do some work on my 69's front end, tie rods, ball joints, shocks and sway bar bushings.
I was wondering if there is any way to determine the diameter of the sway bar other than trying to measure. Every place I have looked for parts offers three different sizes, 1 1/16", 1 1/8" and 1 3/16".

Why the aversion to measuring?

measure. as soon as you look in a book for the "correct" part it will be the other one... Perfect use for my digital calipers

You would think they could make them with a size stamped on either end but nope, gotta measure.

Just see what size open-end wrench fits on it, then you'll know without having to measure!

On my Camaro, they came with paper tags on the end of the bar with part number. Easy plug into google and you have your answer. But with 40yo trucks that have likely been slung thru mud... good luck.

While you are thinking about the front end it would be a good time to look into a disc brake conversion using factory parts along with the heavier steering and suspension components designed for the disc brake loads. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...68&postcount=4
