Ideas for seating - need suggestions
i have a 71 GMC suburban. As I restore the thing I am looking to the interior and with 3 young kids I want to keep it safe (shoulder belts and headrests). the seats are trashed in it and its missing 3rd row.
I am on the fence on the direction to go. original with added shoulder belts? can you add headrests or should I go with something like 99 suburban? how did people who converted add shoulder belts? |

Re: Ideas for seating - need suggestions
You can add shoulder belts to the 2nd row drivers side seat & 3rd row driver & passenger seats. Shoulder belt add on is not possible on the passenger side 2nd row due to the seat being narrower for pass through to the 3rd row seat (if that's the configuration you have). Headrests are not addable. If you want shoulder belts and headrests for all seat positions then you will have to upgrade to a more modern suburban seat configuration with the belts built in. Are you in Hillsboro OR? If so, you can stop by my shop anytime & I can show you what options you have. I'm about an hour from you.

Re: Ideas for seating - need suggestions
2000+ suburban/tahoe seats is what i went with (2003 suburban to be exact). they come with the belts built in the seat and attach to the side of the seat...so no worrying about mounting the belts to the floor. just drill and bolt the seats down. the middle requires some notching of the raised floor area and using spacers, but still the same concept

Kevin,
did you mount the third row seat to the wood? Do you feel that's safe enough? Chris

Re: Ideas for seating - need suggestions
sorry, i forgot to mention i only went with with the first 2 rows, i dont have room for the third row because of my frame notch.
to be honest, i personally would try to find a way to make it more secure than bolting it to the wood floor. but...that is all the the factory did with the third row seat...
