68' pickup ignition switch

During the replacent of an ignition switch (dash mount), the threads in the collar, that hold the switch to the dash got damaged.
I believe the original was cross threaded??
Is there a place to locate a replacement collar?? Or maybe someone who could chase the threads?
It required some tapping on the spanner wrench notches (I don't have the proper wrench obviously), to get the collar removed.
And advice??

Regards....

Re: 68' pickup ignition switch

to the board!

The replacement screw on bezel is available from any parts vendor. The threads on those are very fine and are easily cross threaded. If you can find someone that has a thread file (think machinist) you can clean the threads up on the switch.

Re: 68' pickup ignition switch

Thanks Doc...

The new switch is held in by just the first turn or so...
I wouldn't be in this mess if I hadn't lost the only key ya know.
I got the replacement switch and module from carquest...
You're saying that they also make the "bezel" part?
Hmm... not sure why my parts guy didn't see that.. Thanks for the info.. At least I can get it started now....

Re: 68' pickup ignition switch

I got one a couple years ago from a small local Wisconsin vendor. It was in a GM box. I think GM may sell them. Have your local dealer search for part number 3918893. Here's one GM source. http://www.gmpartscenter.net/oe-gm/3918893

Google "GM 3918893" and get lots of results.
Welcome to the board!!!!

Re: 68' pickup ignition switch

On a 68-72 everything for the ignition is available aftermarket including a driver.
However being aware the AK makes shipping expensive and slow I've copied up a page from the Truck Shop catalog. Maybe you can make your own driver. As far as a nut and the threads go, if it is that beat up you are probably going to need a new part (or used). I've never had good luck fixing potmetal threads.
