67 C10 Project: 2nd Chance Plain Janer

Here it goes. I woke up on a Saturday morning a few weeks ago, pored a cup of coffee and did my ritual craigslist search and this truck popped up. I called hoping it was still available and sure enough it was and I was the first caller. It was very close to home so I was on the way to see. I got there walked around it and thought "well its just another one for parts". I struck a deal on it and even got a better deal if he kept the lumber rack. I went home got my trailer and drug it home. I unloaded it to put it with the other 35 of these 67-72's and for some reason I thought about how it would look cleaned up. Well here it is.

Re: 67 C10 Project: 2nd Chance Plain Janer

After cleaning it up and a closer look this is a very solid ol truck. My plan is to leave it all stock and just fix it up. I'm going to repaint the white and leave the green. The first wash was with 1500 grit sandpaper to follow up with a good buff job. This is powered by a I6 250 with a 3 on the tree. Thinking about dropping it a bit and some different wheels or just the steelies with caps. The interior will stay original as well with a new seat cover. It does need a replacement tail gate though. The engine runs but needs a carb which I have coming from Vintage Windmills. Pic #4 is the LH fender buffed up and Dale waiting for me to throw is toy. Silly dog.

Gorgeous patina (and dog too!). Man that thing would look great bagged. How much did you get it for if you dont mind me asking?

Re: 67 C10 Project: 2nd Chance Plain Janer

Yea it has lots of cool patina. Bagged would be cool but not in budget. I plan to play with it for a while and sell it. The PO said he bought it from a older lady (a few years ago) which said it was her late husbands truck for ever. I can't believe how solid it is. It must have parked under cover. Hoping tonight to unbolt the wheels and see how it looks dropped a bit. Hopefully it's not raining!

Re: 67 C10 Project: 2nd Chance Plain Janer

A couple pics of the engine compartment before cleaning. It appears to be all original. As soon as I get my carb and air cleaner I should have it running! As bad as i want to V8 it, I'm going to keep it original and hope to get some mileage.

I know where there is a sweet running 350, World head, mild cam, elec choke 600, rams horn 700r4 combo running and ready to drop in. Even comes with a guy to help get it done in a weekend. He will even trade you for a 2002 and up new fangled plastic covered motor and electro-shifto trans thingy's

Re: 67 C10 Project: 2nd Chance Plain Janer

Update...Got carb on to only find out that it was not the only problem. It had a stuck exhaust valve, 3 hammered out exhaust seats (non harden seats), and something foreign tumbling around in #1 cylinder. So the head came off and I sent it out to the machine shop for new seats, guides, valves, and springs. It is totally done and ready for the install. BUT....could I put a brand new rebuilt head on a used short block? I tried talking myself into it as I want to keep the cost down but NO I couldn't. So out came the short block. Good deal because the cam lobe for the stuck valve was wasted. It apperently had been that way for some time. Also the #1 piston had a stuck upper ring from the visiting object hammering on the piston. So..good call to remove it. The block is sent out for new pistons and all the other goodies. It was already bored .040 and now will be .060. Now just need time detail under the hood and reassemble the engine.

Pics of my buddy Jon (NEWFISHER) reassembling the head and one of my latest buys a 68 C20 that I bought to part but may save. It is a one owner 327, TH400, Custom. Black truck, white top and gray interior.
