A Plymouth in my driveway?

I may be sailing into uncharted waters here. Sunday I will be looking to buy a Plymouth Coupe. I talked to the second and current owner moments ago. His aunt was the original owner he had driven it through college. It's been stored for 35 years and is now up for sale. My plan would be to restore it to factory, but may toss on some nice wheels. I feel kind of giddy right now.

Don, Looks like a keeper. I had a 47 Plymouth Club Coupe for 40 years. Good car if you add a duel carb manifold. It will cruise a 70 mph all day.

Joe, (upper-shop guy) spends his summers w/vintage cars & hotrods...maybe he has some
good contacts from his Mopar-inclined people.

Also, I rented from some old Mopar nuts (knew a lot about the old stuff) plus I think I might still have some 40's
repair and chassis manuals in my stash. Quite probably so.
Any Q's ...I'll dig into them/scan or mail the manuals or ask questions from my Dodge boys.

I would assume you could find drive train parts but body repair might have to be left to the oldsters who can still
fill w/ lead to work on your OEM sheet metal. Aftermarket? Maybe, too...but geeze...

Interesting subject...buy the pretty bugger, Don, and we can all follow you in Alternate Tinkerings!!!

Engine parts are available, body parts check out a copy of Hemming's. Sheet metal is non-existent. Parts cars are your friend.

Wow! that looks like it is in great shape. I have a friend that is single and he tools around in this.... 1948 I believe.

Well..... I tried to set up a purchase on Saturday but the guy dragged his feet in calling me back. I went out Sunday to look at it. I told him that I'd buy it (as I did on Saturday). I told him that if he contacted the prior day that I would have brought a trailer and cash. I told him I would pay for and pick it up next Saturday. He asked for a deposit but I told him that I'd rather seal the deal with a hand shake and some integrity. He seemed a little put out but I'm not a fan of handing over cash to someone that I've just met. I told him that if he needs it gone sooner he should sell it because I want the car but don't need it. he's had the car since 1960 so it appears that there's no rush. We'll see how this goes. The car looks great and is complete. I'm concerned about the rocker panel rust. I'm not finding any patch panels but maybe a good body shop can fabricate something? If not the car is worth a bunch in parts if I need to go that direction. From what I saw I may even double my money on a flip. I hope I'm not getting in too deep again. My goal is to have it drive-able within a year. I did not take an pictures of my own but here are some that he took.

I picked her up from her hair appointment that day. When I saw her I asked if they charged her for it. I thought it was funny but she didn't! Heck I was just kidding!

Last weekend reminded me of everything I hate about tow dollys. No brakes, louder than heck even while loaded, the uncertainty of old tires, differential and brake lights forward of the vehicle in tow. I chose a dolly over renting a trailer because my driveway is tough to say the least. I did bend in a fender on it but was able to fix it using a winch prior to returning it.

Now I just need to make myself a priority list of how I want to tackle this thing. Any suggestions? It has not been run in 35 years!

I like the green too but it's not mine to choose a color for. I can only provide some strong guidance. One of the Buicks is gone.

man, that brings back some real fond memories. A friend of mine had a 48 Coupe and I had a 40 2dr sedan. His was sub-framed and small blocked while mine was original except for the motor. I built a 57 Chevy 235 .080 over, last known Isky cam in existence, Clifford intake and headers, and get this. Fuel injection made from a mix of Jeep and Ford!!

The heads would turn and people stopped dead in their tracks at cruise-ins. They would look intently and confused before asking about it.

I'd keep it all original and drive the wheels off it.

Ply-Do is a decent source. I don't have a # or website anymore

congratulations to you for "veering off the interstate" so to speak. Not many guys dare to do something different. Cars like this really get me going

Week one. Still untouched. I attempted to transfer the title today. The car was not in the state data base so a paper search will need to be done!

If you are going to put a V8 in it I have a 72 318 for free. You just come over and get it. Needs rebuilding.
If you are going to keep the flathead 6 remove the plugs and dump some Marvel mystery oil in each cylinder and let it set for a week then turn the engine by hand to see if it rotates. After that drain the oil from the engine and replace with fresh oil, remove the distributor turn the oil pump and see if you get any oil pressure.
I also have a extra 3 speed trans, and left door stainless that is missing on your drivers door.

Geesh Dennis that's very generous of you. I'll put that offer (V8) in my back pocket. I'm going to start by taking your advise and work on getting the 6 cyl going first. I was told that the trim was in the truck with extra stuff but have not yet taken inventory of it. There's a big bundle of trim and a couple pieces in which I have no clue where they go. Thank you sir will keep posted!
