Will 4l60e fit in 1970 c20 with factory sm465?
I have a 1970 c20 with a factory 4 speed sm465. It has that big transmission cross member towards the front and of course its riveted in.
Im installing a 95 lt1. Do you guys know if I have to cut the cross member out so a 4l60e will fit? thanks, Kris |

That's a pretty rare C/20 there. I've never done the swap, but I know automatics take a different crossmember than manual. I believe on a factory auto truck the crossmember either needs to be moved back and/or you need the 4L60e crossmember. I believe companies like Early Classics offer a swap crossmember, but could be wrong.

Re: Will 4l60e fit in 1970 c20 with factory sm465?
I figured it will need to be removed.
Its the first 67-72 I have owned so I don't know much about them. I think it was ordered as a cab and chassis cause there are no bed mounts and doesn't look like they were cut off. The cab light are factory cause it has the stamped roof. As far as the dually stuff it has the narrow rear end and it all looks factory but I was told that a c20 never came as a dually so I'm not sure. It also has rear coil springs which I thought was unique for the combo also. When I ordered a front wheel stud the parts store told me it was the size of a 73. Any info would be great. |

If you're talking about the one that is installed near the front of the trans, take it out, you'll need a rear mount cross member for the automatic. It's a pain in the ass too.

??? I thought you said you wanted the 4L60? You can always torch the rivets, save the cross member, and bolt it back in with Grade 8 Bolts.

My '72 was factory auto and I needed only to move the stock cross member back a bit. Pretty sure CPP and ECE sell new conversion/drop cross members if yours is different.
