Power Steering Pulley - Stopping under Load
I have done a lot of work to my baby here lately so I wanted to fire her up to keep motived to finish. I got the from suspension back together and on the ground but everytime that I max out to the left and right, there is a loud squeal and the pulley stops moving temporarily. So I don't know if that means that the power steering is going out or if that is just par for the course. Any advice would be great appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Power Steering Pulley - Stopping under Load
Now enough details to exactly nail it down but....
1) if the pulley is stopping, tighten your belt 2) if the pulley continues to turn but the pump stops turning, you're missing the woodruff key on the pump shaft under the pulley.

Re: Power Steering Pulley - Stopping under Load
I learn so much from the site, thank you!! I will tighten the belt first, since that seems the easiest. Is the woodruff key in an obvious location that I can hunt down to look and what does it look like?? I have never heard of it.

Re: Power Steering Pulley - Stopping under Load
Don't go worrying about your woodruff key yet. Just tighten the belt so the pulley doesn't squeal and stop. That's gonna fix it I'd bet. The woodruff key is out of sight and underneath the pulley. You'd know it was missing if the pulley continued to turn but the center pump shaft stopped. Very doubtful that's the case.

Re: Power Steering Pulley - Stopping under Load
Attached is a picture of a woodruff key. The shaft that the pulley rides on has a groove in it. The pulley also has that same groove. Woodruff key rides in both grooves. Hope this explains.
