Shift rod

Ok folks, I'm running a 700r4 in a 70 model short Stepside and my shift rod keeps coming loose from the column. The rod is almost to short, the end of the rod is flush or just below the top of the little clamp a on the column but it does clamp and the bolt is tight. Any suggestions? Cable shift maybe, lengthen rod somehow, etc?

Re: Shift rod

You could use one of these or make your own.

Re: Shift rod

I made one that looks like the one above using 3/8ths heims and it has worked good for a couple tears now.

Re: Shift rod

LOKAR sells a longer rod for their kit that you will probably need to make it work....

Heim joints!!
H e i m.
It's the coupler the threaded part of the rod screws into. With a ball swivel on the end for multiple angles.

Re: Shift rod

Ok thanks, did not know what they were. Man, if only the stock rod was an inch longer! Thinking about the locker 1800 kit any thoughts on that set up?

Re: Shift rod

Sure that locker kit----
No that's not right!!
It's Lokar!
L O K A R.

Since your truck is modified with a 700 in it, that kit might not work. The rod might be too short.
You'd need to measure yours and call Lokar to make sure.
Your best bet is to remove yours, take it to your freindly neighbourhood welder kinda person and add a couple inches.
