Zolatone spatter paint for bed?

So I've been giving my plans for my 65 stepwise bed some thought. I want it to be usable yet look cool. My neighbor is a cabinet maker so he can probably cut some good pine for the floor. I was thinking of then coating the entire inside of the bed wood and all with zolatone spatter paint. Any thoughts? Of course I could use Berliner spray but I want something different. Kind if reminds me of the spatter paint finishes in 60's impala trunks. Is that stuff pretty durable? I'm not going to be working her hard just maybe the occasional trip to hardware store or the dump to take trash.

Zolatone was very popular in engine compartments back in the 60's. Talking with owners that have used it, it seems very durable, but needs to have good solid coat of paint or their primer/sealer underneath to avoid rust issues. One of my sons used it in his El Camino engine compartment and loved the stuff. It makes a nice contrast against chrome or polished aluminum parts.

I almost painted the engine compartment in my truck with it, but decided on Raptor bed liner instead. The manufacturer suggests it work well in truck beds. I remember an Advanced Design pickup back in the early 60's where the owner painted his whole truck with the stuff. It looked rather strange, but I don't remember it deteriorating. And it wasn't a very good job, it looked like he used a vacuum cleaner to apply the paint (years ago they offered spray painting attachments with some vacuums)!

I've done many 50's and 60's trunks with Zolatone and I can attest that it looks great but I wouldn't consider it durable enough for a truck bed that will be used regularly.. it will chip and scratch off just like paint. Plus unless sealed with clear it will eventually surface rust like primer does on exterior surfaces. Finally, making it adhere good to the wood may be a problem too.

Thanks for the info. Can you recommend a good spray in Bedliner that would adhere to wood?

64 impala SS -- a thing of beauty! I've had my share of 60's impalas 20 years ago. Can't touch them these days. They have reached tri five prices.

Any type of rubberized spray on or roll bed liner will work.. I would use an adhesive promoter on the wood (Bulldog) before spraying the rubberized liner.

What is Felix? Was it a Chevy dealer in the 60's in ca? I always see those plates in California impalas.
