the "quick" turnaround
Whats up brothers..well i finally got my finger outta my a&$ and made a build thread for 68...so here is Betty.
shes a 1968 swb.. i bought her from an old man in Livingston ,Tx for $600 at the beginning of 2013...really didnt do much to her till about Nov 2013..she came with a 305 (but it was suppose to be a 350)/350 tranny...plan was to change all the fluids, put a fresh battery and fire her up.then get her on the road asap you know.. a "quick " turnaround...ya.. that was the plan. Well as we all know with these trucks ...the more you dig the more crap pops up... found the block wasnt a 350..PO had broke the mounting ear where the starter goes...i wanted to pull the clip to freshen up the engine bay...found the firewall was in bad shape...pulled carpet....that was no bueno...and my favorite...cab corners had been rotted out so they decided to just pour fiberglass mix from the inside and just shape it from the outside and oh yea...rockers were rotted out and they used spray foam to fill in the gaps and shaped it.. but hey i paid "only" $600 bucks..well after a month of fighting it.. i caved to my OCD and decided to go full restoration..so.. here we go... this here is a 355 4 bolt main with a 700 tranny i had from my old shorty van..good strong engine gonna make her a 383..

Re: the "quick" turnaround
i bought a rusted out 71 longbed as a parts truck.. pulled the 5 lug suspension and the dash..decided to make her an A/C cab...painted the back side with por15...
in Feb took the cab to the body shop to get the cab corners, rockers, drip rails, above the windshield and firewall replaced.. frame looked lonely and dirty....

Re: the "quick" turnaround
worked on tearing down the frame to get ready for the por15.. had a hard time deciding which way to go on the frame..powdercoat or por15..heard both sides of the table on this...decided to go por15 because shes gonna be a daily driver/workhorse...and the por15 will be easier to touch up and its way cheaper.. if she was gonna be a weekend warrior only..i wouldve went powdercoat..
here i was getting the frame ready with the metal prep

I live not to far from that body shop. I saw that cab out there. How did they do on it.
