Apiary 1967 K10 Swb- single family owned

Bought this at an auction yesterday. Owner was present with his Dad back in '67 when they bought in new at Rochester chevrolet. The truck was used as a beekeepers (apiary) truck and he said his father needed 4wd to get to the hives and wanted a swb for maneuverability. Notice the lettering for the business on the doors. He said it was only used on short local trips and believes the 67,000 mileage to be correct. This replaced an old Jeep with axle problems back at the time.

Based on description, I was under the impression it was a 68 and in worse condition and not running but when I got a close look, it was clear it was a 67 and quite original. Really the only thing added or changed that I can find is the dual air horn setup. I couldn't believe it when he fired it up and it ran very smoothly! That was good and bad though, it meant the bidding competition increased. I had to give around $2k but it took all day to wait for it to sell. Even though its a janer, I think I got an ok deal since they only made 1400 or so K10 fleetside swb's.

Like more factory swb's seem to be, its a janer. Its a 3 on the tree, 250 6cyl total base model. Only real option is lockout hubs! The 4wd technically isn't an option, but a different model of truck.

Not sure if I'm going to keep, I prefer lwb in the 67-72's but I've got a bunch of them (lwb) and maybe it would be nice to balance out my collection with a swb. Would be an easier resto with no trim, and minimal options. Might be a good summer cruise around truck with the white body and 6cyl 3ott... and would be easy upkeep as simple as this one is.

Chassis will clean up nice but I'm looking at a fair amount of lower cab work and driver side of bed needs replaced. That won't be any time soon though, need to finish up a couple K20's first. For now, I'm going to get the brakes in order, ditch the rotted topper and just drive it around as is.

Nice score and I think its worth restoring. As far as I'm concerned you got a great price on it and you would have had to pay much more had I been at that auction. Enjoy the truck ....

Nice! I wish I could find deals like that, and thanks for posting what you paid. I always hate to ask (and 99% of the time I wont) Knowing what people pay puts things more in perspective. You should have no problem selling it, if that's what you decide to do

Re: Apiary 1967 K10 Swb- single family owned

Thanks guys, just need to figure out what I want to do with this one. Good to know I got a good deal, I thought I did pretty good wasn't sure with it being such a no frills model.

I noticed it still has the spiral shocks on it. Seems to support the 67,000 mi claim.

Some other quick pics. I can post better ones after I power wash off the moss. You can see the air tank they added for air horns. I'm going to remove that pretty soon.

Re: Apiary 1967 K10 Swb- single family owned

Love the janer rubber floor mats.
Love the 4WD sticker on the inside roof, if that's what it is.
Very rare piece there, I haven't driven a TOTT since Dad's old 71 C10 350 4bl.
Never seen a TOTT 4WD before, but why not? Bought to serve a purpose for sure.
What is the sticker on the glove box?
Does the transfer case have a low range?

Just power washed it, found the upper radiator hose is original with the GM stamping on it. Also found the protecto plate, owners manual, and original receipt!

Its got some nice 7up artwork on the backside and is setup for bottles. I am not sure how old it is, but is from when pop was 5 or 10c a bottle. It supposedly works, Im going to clean it up and put it down by my rec/tv room in the basement.

Tcase does have high low range. Its the durable, but getting harder to find parts for T221 Rockwell. I doubt the 250 could ever wear it out.

glovebox sticker is factory spicer lockout instructions. Roof mounted tcase label is correct.

I am confused by the special paint. The truck has no evidence of a respray that i can find. Could it just have been a non stock shade of white?

Powerwashed it, fresh gas, and new master cylinder. Pedal still goes to floor, must be a leak somewhere that allowed fluid out of the lines. Anyways, here are some pics:

Floor is dirty has a couple areas rusted through but is very straight, not a rock hauler!
