2004 ls swap with 99 z28 cluster
I've been doing research on z28 cluster for my ls swap. My donor 04 Silverado cluster has a white engine speed wire and the 99 z28 cluster doesnt. I'm assuming that the tach signal comes from the serial data, I just wanted to confirm or someone point me in the right direction. I've seen the same combination used.

Yes he did. Very nice. I like that look. I wonder how he mated it to the metal dash. Did he are you weld some bolts to the back side of the metal dash are what?
I have been thinking about redoing mine and counter sinking the gauges to slant up some to see them better while driving.

I've done the same with a 97 z28 cluster.

Re: 2004 ls swap with 99 z28 cluster
93-97 z28 clusters use a tach wire and the 98-02 clusters use the serial data wire to drive the tach...at least that's what another member told me.

Re: 2004 ls swap with 99 z28 cluster
Yeah...I wish someone had all the answers for this ls swap. Brendan has done a lot of good articles on this stuff but he has never used a Silverado or a z28 cluster for a swap. We've been emailing each other on this subject. I'm doing this thread for this reason. Everyone shows the finished product, but never documented the wires used or how they got what to work. I'll do my best to keep this thread going as I figure it out. I came across the resistor idea that you posted on a ls1 site I believe. If I could get all the answers on one thread that'd be great for someone else in the future. Thanks for the reply on what solved your problem.

Re: 2004 ls swap with 99 z28 cluster
You're right it does from the the class 2 serial but not directly form the PCM . I would try it from the PCM though it might work . Pin 58 or 59 are the ones I'd try on the blue connector.

Re: 2004 ls swap with 99 z28 cluster
Why did you pick a 4.8 over some of the other LS motors?
Nice looking stepper. Cool idea with the cluster. |

I used an 02 Camaro cluster. Works great, I've got a lot of notes and pinouts if you need any info. Dave

Update...everything comes through serial data except oil pressure. Bought a sending unit for a 99 z28 drilled and tapped oil cooler manifold by filter.
