Why don't anyone make? .......Wish they would!
When I look through some websites and catalogs I see our years completely skipped over for lots of parts such as short bed sides and firewall replacement metal. Surely there would be a market for things like this. Any reason they are not made?
I see the years surrounding ours being offered. Anything else that you'd like to see offered that is not? |

Re: Why don't anyone make? .......Wish they would!
Unfortunately, our trucks were slow to catch on with the masses. Now that they are finally getting more popular maybe the aftermarket suppliers will catch up. There has been a lot of new products showing up so I hope this continues as it's getting harder and harder to find good used parts.

Re: Why don't anyone make? .......Wish they would!
It would be nice to have a greater selection of 6-lug wheels...especially those that would accept a factory hubcap and disc brakes.
Add seat covers to the list as well.

I'd like to see seat covers that look like original--especially custom cab.
'61-'63 hubcaps would be nice too (especially since I lost one over the weekend). |

My firewall lip has two bad places and I see other years that offer a full firewall replacement panel. That would be great for my 65.

Re: Why don't anyone make? .......Wish they would!
Rather than offering a greater selection of parts, I wish they'd start over and build quality parts that actually duplicate the OEM pieces. I've never found a reproduction part yet that matches OEM, whether it be door handles, gaskets, and body sheet metal.

Re: Why don't anyone make? .......Wish they would!
I'm with Markeb01 on this one.....I'd just like to see some quality repop stuff being made. There are tons of non-reproduction parts and we've all learned to live with that, but I just wish they'd take the time to correct the issues with the parts currently being made, especially sheet metal parts. Doesn't do them any good to expand their selections if its going to be garbage too.

Re: Why don't anyone make? .......Wish they would!
Sometimes it's a matter of manufacturers acquiring the tooling to make the parts- it can be cost prohibitive to invest in tooling and equipment for limited sales. It would take a hell of a lot of roof skin sales to equal the cost to make them.
And most guys wouldn't want to pay much anyway. A handful of guys here, who MIGHT buy one(only if cheap enough) isn't a substantial market to set up manufacturing, especially if you want it made in the USA. It's a sad situation, but all too true. I'm like most anyone else- just like to have good quality stuff worth what you pay for it. |

Re: Why don't anyone make? .......Wish they would!
tincan, you hit the nail on the head. With the cost to start production of a new product line a manufacturer is not going to devote the resources and money until they are certain they can recoup their investment costs. They will make sure there is a solid market before that happens. Every year there is a higher demand for 60-66 parts. It is a matter of time before the market has more goodies in it. Look at how much is available now as opposed to 15 years ago, when I had my first '63. It's a massive difference.

Re: Why don't anyone make? .......Wish they would!
Actually, I hope our trucks never become so popular that the big commercial houses start reproducing part just for these years.
Part of the joy or restoration is making do with what you have and thinking outside the cab. If our trucks ever become as popular as those cars that can literally be built from the ground up with all new parts (Mustangs, Camaros, Cobras, etc) then the game is over.

Sail panel retainers would be nice. You always find the panels, but no mounts (retainers) with them.
