1970 v8 307 flooding super easy

Hey guys!

Recently picked up my 1970 c10 with the factory 307. The problem I am having is if I don't drive the truck for a few days, it doesn't wanna start. A 10 second crank with 2 throttle pumps and the carb is pissing gas out onto the intake manifold and running off the back of the motor. One it gets like that it won't start at all and just dumps gas after a 3-5 second crank attempt. Any idea what might be happening?

What carb?
Could be something in the needle/seat or a sunk float.

This may sound silly, but are you sure you fuel line isn't broken?

What you describe is flammable liquid pissing on a hot engine. 75 years (at the time) of automotive experience and design should make this pretty rare
Might want to check where the fuel is escaping from the carb.

307 would likely have Rochester 2 jet?

I removed the air cleaner and can see the carb pushing fuel out of the top a few seconds after cranking.

The fuel line is not broken cause once it does start, besides hesitating and stalling randomly when I step on the gas from a stop, doesnt have any problems.

I did notice on the first picture what looks like a vacuum choke that is not hooked up, I assume that a later electric choke was installed?

fuel out the top is because the bowl is overfilling due to either a bad float , a mis adjusted float, or a bad needle and seat. and the hesitation is either your timing is retarded or a bad accelerator pump. definitely time for the carb to come apart for inspection. pull the float and sink it under water in a pan see if after a few min if it fills with any water if it does its bad.

What you've got there is a "divorced choke". It uses heat from the manifold to work. This is probably not related to the problem you're having. Geezer#99 is probably right about the needle/seat/float.

Looks like your choke is operational.
Look here for carb kits. Look in the link for carb information to determine your carb number.

If it keeps flooding don't run it. You'll get gas in your oil. Could wipe a bearing.

Exactly... if your oil smells like fuel, you can trash the bearings in short order. Ask me how I know...

That's not the divorced choke. That gizmo is the tcs.
