1992 Chevy G20 day van steering into '66 truck ?

Well, the title says it all.

I am looking to switching my steering column on my truck to a more modern item.

Who has done it ?

I do not know if it is an easy swop over or silly stoopid..

Anyone done this swop before??

All advice and tips appreciated.

The only advice I can give is that the key on column style columns are a larger diameter and will require a bit of fabrication and clearancing to get the ignition switch to clear and fit up into the oem column/brake pedal bracket.
The other thing to watch for is the shift linkage bracket. Not sure on the van type, but the trucks from '88+ the shift lever is to the outside of the column, not the inside, so it is backwards(all the way down is Park) and not a straight line to trans.

I have a '94 C1500 pickup tilt column in mine. Spent a bit of time making it fit and also made my own column shift cable shifter to work with my TH350C trans.

The short answer is NO it is not a bolt in like the 70's and early 80's van columns.

This is really useful to know.

With us living in England, parts are a lot more difficult to get, and I personally prefer the "plug and play" type options, as there is not a lot of guidance or experience over here, so everything has to be learned from forums and google.

If you are doing this to get a collapsable column would it not be easier to just take the shaft from the g20 and see of it would fit in the 66 mast?

Sure there was somebody that did this in the build thread...

I am looking at buying the steering column and wheel from a 1992 Chevy G20 Dayvan to fit to my 1966 C10 truck.

The seller said he cannot email me photos of it as he is not computer savvy (his three for sale pics of the van are not impressive at all) and its 100miles from where I live. He is a nice guy on text but I wont be knowing what I may be getting.

So, does anyone have a photo(s) of the dash or steering wherl of one of these please??

I love the Hillbilly/Redneck look of my steering wheel, but the column is a bodged old thing and you can select any gear and start it as you wish.

I am trying not to go the Ididit route.

This is what I have at the moment, I do like the look, but not the function.







Ratio of gut to steering wheel...... I prefer the wheel away from myself.




Hope this makes sense, and as to why I am looking at changing.
