'72 blank gauge cluster?
Is there such a thing? I want to do custom gauges, but I don't like the autometer or the other replacement housings...I'd rather just have a blank I can cut the way I want.

Re: '72 blank gauge cluster?
Would a glovebox door work?

Re: '72 blank gauge cluster?
The glovebox door gag is a neat one -- you could keep parts of the bottom piano hinge and the lock at the top and pop the Instrument Panel down for inspection and/or repair. Drawbacks are -- having a lot of metal to cut precisely, and also the mechanical gauges, Vacuum and Oil Pressure, would strain their connections in inspection position. Longer pigtails may be needed on the electrical connections, too. A couple of Dzus fasteners [1/4 quick turn to lock] in each upper corner would keep the Panel from popping down at the wrong times. Don't forget the 2" arch at the center of the bottom for the Steering Column.
[Be sure to find a glovebox door with many rare options on its SPID, like 402 4x4 BBC, Highlander seatcovers. PTO, Special Paint, Feathers Decals, etc, as they are the most fun ever to hack.] A simpler option would be to cut away the stock gauge forms and graft on [heat-weld or airplane glue] a solid 1/4" plastic panel and make cut-outs for your gauges where ever you need them. You then have to re-route and re-wire all your Turn Signal Light/Hazard indicators, Gen Light, Hi-Beam Indicator, Brake Warning lights, etc somewhere, but that's the challenge. Good Luck.
