Tall ball joint recommendations?
Good afternoon Gentlemen,
Shopping for parts and would like your opinions on Tall spindles and manufacturers and part numbers. Moog? Proforged? anyone else? Truck is a 66 C10. Appreciate your input and yes, I have used the search function and the FAQ! P. |

Re: Tall ball joint recommendations?
Hey Paul, what do you have in mind? If you can elaborate on what you're looking to accomplish, then maybe some suspension gurus can chime in and offer some suggestions.
As far as a taller spindle, I don't know of anything that'll work in stock form. You might have better luck with a different ball joint. Years ago, the Gasser guys used to use ball joint spacers to raise the front, but I'm not sure if that's what your intentions are. Let us know!

Actually laughing at my stupidity with a rather nice glass of wine as the sun sets over the green fields of the Essex countryside...
What I actually meant to write was tall ball joints. NOT spindles! What a complete plum I am... P. |

Re: Tall ball joint recommendations?
The "make it handle" thread touches on it towards the end of it. Pretty much anything you can do to either lower the inner mount or raise the outer pivot will help. The spindle is too short in stock form for any camber gain... Howe and QA1 both make rebuildable ones in .5" taller.

Re: Tall ball joint recommendations?
Proforged advertise a 0.9 as well as a 0.5 is itacaseof bigger is better or would the1/2 be the way to go?
The truck is being set up to handle on a budgert following along the lines of Robs Joe Touring build with a few additions. Many thanks. P. |

Re: Tall ball joint recommendations?
One of the threads talks about lowering the inner pivot. It is said dropping the pivot as well as tall joints would be good, so I would think that .9" would be ok. The only issue I can see is the extra leverage the joint will have put on it. Even with the .5" I think I'd keep a close eye on wear and possible bending.

Re: Tall ball joint recommendations?
That was sort of my thinking. Would like to hear from anyone with miles on a tall ball joint.
Will contact Proforge tomorrow to get their view. P. |

Re: Tall ball joint recommendations?
I have not been able to find them? I had looked around and understand that they dont actually make them that will fit our trucks. I know Rob mentioned it in the make it handle thread but I dont think they are available.
Somebody prove me wrong please... thanks David

Re: Tall ball joint recommendations?
So 73-95 model year tall ball joints will fit then?
I am going to run McGaughy's dropped spindles as part of the disk brake conversion, if that makes any difference. Thanks for the input. Regards, P. |

Re: Tall ball joint recommendations?
There are some great experts on here so maybe we will get an answer for sure. I don't know if the upper ball joints are the same on 73 and up as ours. I do know I recently swapped to new spindles and got the 73 and up but was not sure if that was just the steering link or all of it.
It had been a while since I looked but I couldn't seem to get a good part number.

Re: Tall ball joint recommendations?
ttt
did anybody confirm or know if the upper ball joints in the pre 73 a-arms are the same as the 73-87 series? I had these same issues a couple years ago and ended up building custom mounts and lowered my inner bolts holding the A-arm in place to get the same affect.

Re: Tall ball joint recommendations?
So.
If I am using McGaughy's dropped spindles what is the correct tall ball joint for the application as they are listed for 63-70 C10. Slightly confusing! Or is it not available? P. |

If dead set on running the tall BJ you might need the CPP conversion spindles for 63-70's as they utilize the 63-70 spec'd BJ's.
