What headers are the 4x4 guys running?
Well I spent my saturday welding up a new exhaust for my 70 4x4, found the collectors on my headers have a few pin holes in them so I guess I'm in the market for new headers. My question is for all the 4x4 guys here, what are your favorite bang for the buck header? I'm wanting a good quality thicker flange header.

Heddmans. No other choice IMO if you have a manual trans.

Thanks was looking at heddman, also hoping to get close to the same length header so I don't have to cut or add for exhaust piping. I'm running a 350 with a 4spd(not sure which one) and a 205 xfers case

Re: What headers are the 4x4 guys running?
I've been looking for an exhaust systen for my 72 4x4. Do the exhaust pipes run under the crossmember? I can't see any other way on the passenger side. What is the part number for those Hedmens? I put Hedmans on my 67 Chevelle and they fit perfect

Re: What headers are the 4x4 guys running?
I did mine to run outside the cross member. I actually like the way it fits nice and snug and doesn't hang down at all you just have play with it before you tack it up to weld. I bought 2.5in tubing. Each side uses two 45 degree bends and one 90 degree bend in between the 45's. I did have to notch the cross member on the drivers side to fit the 2.5 pipe but you wouldn't have to if you used smaller diameter piping. I will post pics this evening if your interested.

Re: What headers are the 4x4 guys running?
This is what I came up with. Both sides are almost identical, I got all the piping from auto zone for less than 80 bucks. Is not show quality but it works great is cheap to build and you can say you did it yourself.

Re: What headers are the 4x4 guys running?
Mine had 2" through the crossmember on the drivers side but the extra .5" wouldnt work without crushing the pipe down and with my headers it just wasnt working. Im still looking around for the right header to replace my old rusty leaking ones. I guess I'm going to get heddmans unless someone can advise otherwise
