Correct vinyl for 77 bench seat?
Anyone have luck finding the correct vinyl for 1977 model? I believe its called a 7 panel. I know you can buy the 9 panel but trying to keep it original. If I have to settle, whats the best place to buy a set from? Heres my original and some other examples.

Re: Correct vinyl for 77 bench seat?
So I actually found them the other day after I posted this and emailed them. They found the material and are sending me a sample to check and confirm color. It's $55 a yard and they said a good interior place could stitch it up. Hmmmm.. Any suggestions there? I'll post a pic of the sample when I get it. Thanks for the response fellers!

Re: Correct vinyl for 77 bench seat?
Don't mean to hi jack, but was the 77 the only year with that color of woodgrain for the dash insert, panels, and bezel? Is there a company making reproductions?
Thanks, Oscar |

Re: Correct vinyl for 77 bench seat?
Oscar, I haven't found any yet. Maybe someone else can shed some light. J had to restore my side panels and dash insert by cleaning and spraying them with clear coat. You can find a real good clean gauge bezel floating around eBay once in a while but be prepared $$$!

Here's the wood/metal door panel I clear coated. Not bad for a $4 rattle can spruce up!

No way no how. I've been in every yard from Pahrump to Lake Havasu looking for parts and nothing even close. That's a negative Ghostrider...

Re: Correct vinyl for 77 bench seat?
Here are the samples that were mailed to me by SMS Auto Fabrics. They are in Canby, OR.
The color is spot on but not sure about the material. Just doesn't have the same kind of swirl or grain if you will. Very close and very soft. I'm sure it would be real nice looking. |

Re: Correct vinyl for 77 bench seat?
That's not bad for a vinyl seat that will look original. You must have someone to put it all together. If you see extra square buttons somewhere grab them

Re: Correct vinyl for 77 bench seat?
I found an complete "code W" seat in a local junkyard. Beat and brittle but no tears. It did have the buckles and it can be used as a pattern. I see very few squares in this area so this was a very lucky find.
I got a price to from a Memphis upholstery shop last year. $800 for just to redo the vinyl with the buckles from the old seat (foam not included). It'll have to wait. FYI - I found these in my 1977 Data Book - The vinyl grain is called Buffalo Hide. |

Re: Correct vinyl for 77 bench seat?
Awesome post 77 Sport! I had not seen this data pages before.
I talked to the suggested best upholster person in Winston Salem today's and she told me it usually takes about 4 yards to do a bench. She said around $250 to sew it up and put it on. So I guess after material and labor I'm looking at about $500 for a jammin' factory finish! Sign me up!!! |
