Horn Button Install - 1958 Chevy Truck
I need instructions and/or tips on how to install the horn button assy on my 1958 Chevy Truck. I have purchased some aftermarket replacement parts (picture attached). I bought a new steering wheel, contact plate, contact bushing and cap. I installed the contact bushing into the steering wheel - installed the steering wheel and tightened the steering wheel nut - removed the nut and placed the contact plate with the fingures pointed outward for the cap - re-installed the nut - placed cap on the fingers of the contact plate - hooked up the battery - horn honked and would not quit - WHAT AM I MISSING - something very simple I'm sure.
thanks in advance Tom |

There should be a spring that keeps the contact from touching the plate. I don't have a pic now, but it's about as big around as a pencil and it's about 1.5-2" long.

That makes sense - I did not get that. have you ever seem an exploded view of all of the components?

Re: Horn Button Install - 1958 Chevy Truck
There's a spring in the contact bushing but it's not removable. The only other spring in my truck is the larger spring that goes under the steering wheel. I don't mean to ask dumb sounding questions but did you notice the tab sticking down on the contact plate and make sure you put it in the hole in the steering wheel? Also, the contact bushing goes into the steering wheel from the top side. If it's all installed correctly and the horn still blows continuously it could be that the contact plate is shorted.
