Help? 5.7 TPI Engine - NO ECM or Wire Harness

First of all I am new to this forum. So here is a little background, I was given my step dads 53 five window (Cecil) a few years ago to eventually give to my son when he is old enough. My stepdad bought this when he turned 16 in 1975 and it is really good condition. After some study I decided that I would turn this into a rusto mod, complete with a 85 S-10 undercarriage. For most is not all of this, I have contacted SKYMANGS and he will do transformation since I don't have a lot of time (or expertise) to get this wrapped up because I want my mom to see this vehicle before she eventually succumbs to ALS. Also I want step-dad to see his old truck turn into all it can since he is my mom's caretaker. I will start a thread on the truck soon, and SKYMANGS is great at keeping his clients up to speed on his Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/OSGcustoms

So here is my dilemma, I have a 5.7 TPI (10k on the engine)from an 87 IROC that I purchased new back in the day, needless to say the car was totaled (not by me) and I ended up with motor but nothing else (no ECM, NO Wire harness ect). I was thinking the easiest thing would be to just carb the motor but I think there are few companies out there making after market ECMs and harnesses.

Anyone have suggestions, or experiences with aftermarket ECMs. Am I asking for trouble buy trying to rebirth this TPI?

Thanks,
Shawn

I would use it if I had it...does it still turn over or is it locked?
FAST, MSD and others make these systems. Your choice or the bone yard if yo can find one.
I used the MSD and love it

Pretty sure the motor is not locked. Plan on pulling the plugs tomorrow and PBlasting the cylinders. What about Megasquirt from DYIAutotune?

I ran a PAINLESS harness on my LT1 in my Jeep and grabbed an ECU from the wrecking yard.

There's a bunch of different ways to make OEM parts work. One reasonable path is a 1227730 ecm and a used harness from a V6 or V8 car with the same computer. Most expensive part is likely to be the Camaro (or Corvette) chip. Camaro should be 90-91. Corvette should be 89-91. Has to be from a V8.

Re: Help? 5.7 TPI Engine - NO ECM or Wire Harness

Ok so a little ebay research and this is what I have found. iroc 5.7 engine computer & hypertech chip.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/86-87-89-88-...7c7904&vxp=mtr

I can go with the painless wire harness kit, then I guess the only other thing I need is High Pressure Fuel Pump. Any suggestions?

Looks like I should be able to rebirth this thing for less than a $1k

Here's where I got my harness. I also had them program my ECM chip.

They should have an ECM too. I highly recommend them.

Re: Help? 5.7 TPI Engine - NO ECM or Wire Harness

The ecm you found is for a MAF sensor based system. It's ok, but there are some improvements to be found by using the later version. The number I mentioned was what GM switched to in 1990. If you're keeping the engine stock and don't have any desire to tune or upgrade then you'll probably be ok with the older system.
