BFG Radial t/a question
I went to discount tire today to order some bfg radial t/a tires for my rally wheels and the guy at the counter said he couldn't mount them on my truck because the load rating wasn't sufficient for the front? Is this right? Has anyone else had this issue or was I doing something wrong with what I was trying to order?
I was trying to order 235/70/15 front 255/70/15 rear. 15x7 and 15x8 rallies for my 78 2wd blazer. |

Re: BFG Radial t/a question
Were you ordering "P" or "LT" tires?
P is passenger car, places like Discount tire don't like the liability factor of P tire on a light truck. That's what comes to mind regarding them refusing you.

They (Discount Tire) wouldn't repair a flat on a 20" tire for me because "the tire had exceeded it's service life" (it was to the treadwear bar). I explained that the wheel & tire were on a car that had no motor, drivetrain, or interior & had been placed there because they were worn down. BUT, they still needed to be able to hold air so the thing could be rolled around when necessary. They wouldn't fix the leak. I had the tire dismounted, took it & the wheel w/me & repaired it myself. To this day it's still just used to roll a project around when necessary & that was back around 2010. That was also when I stopped using Discount Tire.

Re: BFG Radial t/a question
Just order the tires from Tirerack.com, they'll probably be cheaper from there.

Re: BFG Radial t/a question
normally P tires belong on cars, but since their BF's, i wouldn't worry about weight ratings. i had very similar tires on my '68 -235/60/15 front, 255/60/15's on the rear. ran them hard for 7 or 8 yrs, hauled many a load of shingles & lumber with them, towed my boat & t.trailer with them-NEVER had a flat tire, just plumb wore the tread right off them

Re: BFG Radial t/a question
Thanks that's Good to know...I told him to order them anyway today and just mount them to my rims when they come in. I had checked tire rack and they were within just a couple bucks. I did some more reading and it sounds like they'll be fine : )

Re: BFG Radial t/a question
Tire places are getting to where they don't want to mount anything except whats on the sticker for that particular vehicle. I especially liked it when discount tire wouldn't sell me more Radial T/As in 275 60 15 for my 85 even though they sold me the ones that were on the truck that had 40000 miles of even wear on them and never caused me any problems.

Re: BFG Radial t/a question
I've ran 275/60/15 bfg's for the last four years on my short box with a heavy diesel over the front tires and a lot of towing load on the back tires. Over 40k miles and never an issue.

Re: BFG Radial t/a question
LT tires are a load range E tire and typically only used on 3/4 ton and 1 tons. Try someplace else or see if they will let you sign a waiver

Re: BFG Radial t/a question
my old 1990 454ss came stock from the factory with the same tires and it had a big block and they worked fine.

Re: BFG Radial t/a question
I get mine from jeg's or summit. Cheaper and free delivery and they don't ask what they're going on.

Re: BFG Radial t/a question
Wonder what its gonna be like in 10-20 years?!?
Mount & Balance with shades drawn????????? WHY IS IT that there is so much attention paid to things that shouldn't even be on the radar? I stopped shopping at Sams Club because of the "police" attitude I got on tire size vs. vehicle application. They didn't want to sell me tires because I wasn't 'cooperative' about telling them what the tires were going on!!!! Didn't even ask them to mount & balance; just wanted to buy 4 tires and leave with them.

Re: BFG Radial t/a question
I always order my T/As for discounttiredirect.com free shipping and sometimes get lucky with a rebate. Then take to a mom and pop shop to install tires.
