62' c10 V8 motor mount help

My 62' c10 came with the i6 and I finally came across a SB 350. Does anybody know where I can find v8 motor mounts? Thanks

Re: 62' c10 V8 motor mount help

if your truck is a standard trans it was a wish bone like mount that used the same mounting holes in the block as the 55 chev wich then bolt to where the I6 does. if a auto trans there where very rare side mounts that bolt to the cross-member and used the side mounts on the block. but thats the stock options you can also use the mounting stools off of a 63-66 truck with a shim on top of the frame rail.

Re: 62' c10 V8 motor mount help

I used 72 motor stands to replace the horseshoe engine mount. No shims and in same rear most position unlike many that are pushed forward.

X2

The '67-'72 small block engine mount brackets fit the '60-'62 frames nicely. They also make it easy to add a power steering pump should you want power steering. The front horseshoe mount makes it difficult to mount a PS pump.

Awesome, and do they line right up with the original mounting holes?

Sorry.. I meant do the mounting holes on the motor mounts line up with the original motor mount holes on the frame? Or do new holes need to be drilled?

Re: 62' c10 V8 motor mount help

Nice pic Capt. You have to drill frame. Buy a nice new one, splurge a little, makes drilling easy. Notice engine mount holes are in Capt picture, that's where the front of my motor is. Not on the 6 stand. I used my bellhouse and stands mounted on motor check all alignment multiple times. With lots of Irish Luck my motor landed square first time. Between the two of us building motors over the years that never happened.

Since Car Domain is not running right, here is a descent mount pic. I will get a pic of Al's '62 with his mounts. His is forward.

Re: 62' c10 V8 motor mount help

So this is what I got. AL had to lengthen his drive shaft. Radiator is for 55 57 Chevy pickup truck, sits farther back because of flange. No room for bigger fan. Notice how far forward his motor is than mine. Mounts are right on top of centerline where mine is behind.

Are the front of the engine mount brackets for the V8 hard to come by?

Re: 62' c10 V8 motor mount help

I would assume so. My 283 had no side mounts. The 400 didn't have a lot of the holes a 350 would have. You would not want to use it with more than 2x the Hp/Tq of stock. Could not get rubber isolator either.

Re: 62' c10 V8 motor mount help

Awesome, thanks a bunch guys! Definitely going to look for the 67'- 72' mounts.. actually the guy I got the motor from told me he has some from a 72' 3/4 ton. I assume those would be the same? He also has the 72' front end spring/ disc brake I'm gonna get.
He was saying that they are supposed to bolt right in.. is that accurate?

Re: 62' c10 V8 motor mount help

If those '72 mounts are from a small block, they will work.

On the '60-'62's you have to drill almost all the holes to bolt in a later model disc brake crossmember. I have never done one in a '60-'62, but others here have and can give you more detailed info.

To make the engine sit more forward, those would be the 67-72 engine mounts, or?

Re: 62' c10 V8 motor mount help

No. The 67-72 mount puts the motor back in stock location closest to firewall. Or you can move all forward because there are no holes on the 60-62 frames. If you look at my motor it sits mostly behind centerline of front axle line where others sit middle engine. Think weight and balace.

Re: 62' c10 V8 motor mount help

So its not good to make it sit more forward on a 62 because of the balance? If I wanted it to, I'd get some motor mounts and just drill them in the frame?

If it's bad for the balance I won't but I'd just like to have it forward for the room while working on the engine..

Re: 62' c10 V8 motor mount help

You could move the engine forward using the '67-'72 small block brackets. It is better to have the engine as far to the rear as possible for weight distribution.

Re: 62' c10 V8 motor mount help

You want to do the least amount of fab. The stock location is best. Measure 3 or more times to make sure it's square. Your stock trans crossmember will help locate. Use the v8 engine mount as reference. Make a template, wood or cardboard is fine, that is where the engine face should be.

You can make one from tube, round or Square. Not sure there is a 60-62 one but everything I got I had to modify. Porterbuilt sent a round tube I need to cut and fit. If your doing this now, it would be time to add an OD trans.

Re: 62' c10 V8 motor mount help

Relatively few of the '60-'62's came with an auto trans and consequently those crossmembers are hard to come by....and $$$$ when you do. There are many variables when these trucks are updated with a newer drivetrain so I would say just fabricate your own. I have seen a couple guys use a mid '70's F body trans crossmember as a donor. There is a set of 3 holes on each side of the forward X-member where the original bolted in.

Re: 62' c10 V8 motor mount help

Sorry to bring this back, but I organized my garage and moved into my shop, and I can only find one motor mount. So I guess I'll be on the search for a small block motor mount from 67-72.

I will need to do the 1 inch spacer correct? Because of the height of the frame for my 62. Right?

Thanks
