Dash Pad Options

As you guys can see from my post count, I am new to the site but have enjoyed reading about everyone's builds and the various projects. I have tried to search the forum for subjects about dash pad replacements without a lot of luck. I did see one build where the guy got his dash pad recovered and it looked awesome.
My question is what are most of you guys doing for a dash pad? I have seen them from $110. all the way up to $500. but I haven't seen any pictures of the less expensive ones installed. If you have a suggestion, or have any pictures of what you did please post them. I have a neat old truck that I am enjoying fixing up with my sons, but I really don't want to purchase a dash pad for more than I paid for the truck.
Thanks

Re: Dash Pad Options

Your best bet is finding a clean GM one on craigslist. The repops aren't the greatest quality. The finish was nice on mine, but it didn't fit quite right and it had a bow in it. It dipped down right over the gauges. I found a clean GM one that was a different color, and I traded my buddy for it. It just worked out that way. There are a lot of good vinyl die products out there, so if you find one in good condition, don't worry about the color.

Re: Dash Pad Options

I used one from Cheyenne pickup parts (www.cheyennepickup.com).

It's been five years and I just noticed yesterday it's got a bit of a dip in it above the gages (rh side of the cluster area) but no one else has ever noticed or pointed it out to me.

You can see pics in my into/build thread, linked below (page 10 or so).

Re: Dash Pad Options

Mark-L, what year is your truck and what color are you doing the interior in? I have seen a couple of decent ones in my area and I could keep my eyes open for a used one.

Re: Dash Pad Options

Thanks for the responses guys. Silverbear mine is a 73 and the interior is blue, and Keith I think yours looks pretty good from the pics I saw. If I can't find a nice used one I may have to go that route.

Re: Dash Pad Options

Keith, that does look good. Any idea who the manufacturer is? I'm assuming Cheyenne is a reseller......
