Why would something this simple not be made any more
Saw a truck recently where the owner fabbed something like this up and did some digging around. Looked like such a simple idea but nobody makes one like it. Wonder why. Guy I spoke to welded a bunch of stuff together to make it work and said it drove great. These are pics of a kit that is no longer available I found in an old thread from 2009 or so.

Coil over kits are produced. Google "coil over kits" and you will find all sorts of options.
On a truck I do believe it will have it's limits, mainly in spring size. You have a MUCH smaller spring which will limit the ability to make it heavy enough to carry a load that may be associated with a pickup. I am sure they can be made to carry a decent amount of weight, but I am not sure at what cost. I believe they are mainly used in cars that have limited suspension space, so they integrated the shock and spring. In a truck with lots of space to have separate coils and shocks it makes more since to have two separate pieces.

I know coilover kits exist, but this seems so simple and easy. A bracket that mounts to the trailing arm and another that bolts to the frame. Put the right size coilover o there and your done.

The idea is a sound one the way that kit was made was a little light duty based on what we did on the drag cars. It could be beefed up and would work fine. The springs are not a problem to get rates that would give a good ride and some load carrying but in a truck set up very low they dont see a lot of loaded running.

Re: Why would something this simple not be made any more
I have that kit from the pictures on my 67 and there are a couple things I would do different if I was fabbing one up. the kit really needed a 5" stroke shock instead of a 4" and the upper shock mount would need to be 1" higher up to match up with the longer shock.

Re: Why would something this simple not be made any more
there is plenty of room to raise the upper mount before it would interfere with the bed floor

I used that one with a longer shock and raised the mounting point. I braced between the top of the two upper mounts. Works great.
