Other than sandblasting, whats some good ideas for cleaning up 30 year old, STRAIGHT, Very little rust, oil caked valve covers. Does anyone know how to loosen that burnt oil out of the interior? On the outside, I plan on using Aircraft Paint Remover? to take the paint off, and sanding to remove the surface rust. Any other ideas are welcome. This is on a Caddy motor so new valve covers are not just around the corner at the local speed shop. Thanks!

Try some oven cleaner

You could take them to a machine shop and ask them to toss them in the vats for a couple moments. This will leave virgin metal inside and out.
They may ask for a couple bucks, they may do it for free...but I have seen one place that wanted 40 bucks to do it.
Dam right I walked away.

Easy Off works like a champ. just don't breathe the stuff!!

you might also want to go to just a local gas station/repair place to seen if they could throw it in their parts cleaner that Safteykleen stuff works wonders on junk like that maybe you could also ask them in a radiator shop
easy off fumes kinda get t o you if youre not careful

I don't think easy off will get the crysalized oil in the pcv area. (you have that in there, don't you?)

Yes, there is crystaline oil deposits coating the top of the heads. Couldn't even see the middle casting number until I excavated the site.

You oughta have them dipped just becouse of that reason alone.
They will be bare virgin metal when you get them back.
