Finally the journey from Michigan to Oregon is underway
Just thought I would share. I am moving myself and my gauge cluster business to Junction City Oregon. A lot of you are aware that I have been planning this for a while. Yesterday, (Sept 15th) my fiance and myself and my 72 Cheyenne, loaded with everything I own, are on our way.
Today we visited the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington and tomorrow heading for St Louis area. We have 10 days planed and taking the slow way. I will try and post photos as we go. The 72 is running like a sewing machine. If only I could slow the gas gauge down some It is getting between 12.5 and 13 on the highway which is normal for what it is. I have waited a while to do this and now it is happening. Very excited to start a new chapter in Oregon. Take care, Tom

Hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip out west Tom.
Would you expect anything less than perfection from a Ochre Chevrolet ? I was hoping you were going to take us along for the ride ! Looking forward to seeing the pics along the way.

Have a safe trip and keep up the pictures.
Slow way sounds like fun! Don't forget to post those roadside "finds" with phone numbers! :-)

Re: Finally the journey from Michigan to Oregon is underway
Thank you all for the well wishes. I/we appreciate it. I will keep everyone updated with photos and no worries about passing any 67-72 trucks by without a photo I have not seen one yet but have been on the freeway the entire trip so far. Plan on taking some back roads soon.
Take care, Tom

Re: Finally the journey from Michigan to Oregon is underway
I like the fixture you made for the bed to safeguard your stuff!
If I were making a cross-country trip in a vehicle of this vintage (which I've done, but not in a truck) I'd carry a couple of parts: a) fuel pump b) alternator c) belts and hoses That's a fairly cheap investment and are the weak points, at least as I recall. My Dad carried spares even in the 70s for roadtrips. It's not that you need to change them on the side of the road (I suppose you could) but more about being able to get parts quickly if you need it repaired. You don't want to wait 2 days in Rearintercourse, Iowa because they don't have a fuel pump. Edit: Maybe climate specific, but I used to keep a block heater on hand too. Why? I had a freeze plug pop out once and it required a tow truck, service center, etc. Didn't have a socket and so on to drive a plug in even if I had one. But a block heater expands with a screw, so you could install one and cut the cord off just as a way to plug the block.
