V6 muffler options
For any of you guys with the Vortec V6, what mufflers are you running? I'm going to be replacing the glass pack that the PO half a$$ put on. I'm wanting to tie in just after the Y from the manifolds and dump it out the side just in front of the rear tire. I'm not looking for anything loud, just something a little better sounding than a factory style muffler.

Re: V6 muffler options
40 series flowmasters don't sound that bad, there are a few S10s running around town with them. I have dual 40s on my 250, had a couple people think I have a 350 in the truck lol

Re: V6 muffler options
I run Magnaflows on V6 engines. A 14" body Magnaflow is noticeable. You know it's there. Sound is noticeable at all RPMs. My 96 Jimmy 4.3 runs great with it.
I run a 20" body Magnaflow on my Nitro. It's a daily driver. Idle sound is enough to notice it's not stock. Cruise and low speed RPMs are barely noticeable. Sound is easily drowned out by music. The 20" really wakes up when you give throttle above 2500 RPMs. |

Re: V6 muffler options
Thanks guys. I'll look at the 20" Magnaflow. That sounds like what I'm looking for.

Re: V6 muffler options
Do you happen to have a video of what the 14" sounds like on the Jimmy?

Re: V6 muffler options
Sorry no. Sold the Jimmy so fast. I could probably get one next week. The guy that bought it works at the same company. Youtube a 14" Magnflow part number. You can probably find a video of one. A 4.3 sounds throaty like a V8 sound just slightly quieter. For sound and performance, I actually liked the 14" better. I only went with a 20" body on my Nitro because it's thinner floor walled. Basically the body is all light metal. I didn't want to hear the drone of a 14" for very long drives. In my Jimmy, anyone sitting in the rear seats with low music sound would complain of drone noise on long road trips. To counteract it, I installed an amp with a 10" woofer. Afterwards, I would be asked if I could turn off the woofer due to hair and ear drum pressure.
