Stepside LSX Project from New Member
Whats up guys, The names Luke, new to the site and a little new to C10s, but I'm here.
I traded for this 69 GMC C15 a couple months ago. Its rolling and almost gutted. Came with some parts and a new American Wiring harness. Body is ok shape, no major major rust, just little on normal spots. Ive bought a 5 lug disc brake conversion kit and put on already, along with new ball joints, tie rods, etc... Plan is to get a cheap 5.3 or 6.0 carbed and cammed it, and a 4L80e. Simple budget LSX swap and cruiser. Im in college full time so its hard to do exactly what i want, and it might take some time. But hell I'm young! Heres some pics and a little of the progress thats came along For the rear, i seen one guy on here use a 80s model 10 bolt rear for a 5 lug rear swap, Although he had trailing arms. I found a 8.5 10 bolt from a 1987 c10 for $50. My leaf spring perches and stock 87 both seem to be 42.5 inches, so im putting new seals and a gear in it and see if i can get it to bolt up to my leafs. its about a 1/2 inch wider on both sides but we'll see if it'll work. Guess we'll see what happens The old 12 bolt New 8.5 10 bolt The man works in crocs.... So now I'm running brake lines and looking for some gears and so on. I have one question, what should i do for brakes power. should i just buy a booster and master cylinder or make my current set up work somehow or find a used early 70s booster and MC or? I'm a little unfamiliar with brake swaps like this and ive tried researching on the cheapest way to do this. if anybody has any input I'd appreciate it lol And if anybody has ever done this 73-87 rear end swap, post some pics and info lol or if anyone has any info on it I'd appreciate it also. so let the fun begin! |

Honestly, if you're goin ls, id just buck up for wilwoods or baers, cpp also makes a good kit for our trucks.

Look like a fun project.
There is NO WAY I would carb an LS! If you go to all the trouble to put it in and keep the computer for an electronic transmission why would you carb it? The fuel injection is so much better in every way-power, startability, fuel economy....By the time you buy a carb, intake, and the ignition system you can probably pay for the harness. My .02

We have mine and 4 other LSX 67-72 GM trucks in my circle of friends and Fuel Injection is the only way we fly.

Nice looking swap Less, you wouldn't happen to have a build thread on that would you?
And I'm still undecided on what im going to do but I'm figuring carb because I already have an intake and carb, all I need is the msd box and full manual control plug to run a 4l80. I'm just looking at the cost basis, after getting someone to do the harness (because I would screw it up lol) and reflashing, etc. I'd be out more after I get someone to tune it when I cam it. Don't exactly know where this project will lead yet but if I get a real good deal on something I might go fuel injected. Right now I'm just focusing on the suspension and other stuff, so Just have to see what happens. |

Got the 5.3 washed off and cleaned up.
Doing a little test fitting 10 bolt fit in nicely Got the fuel cell in and frame a little painted Don't you just LOVE tho broke bolts in the head..... Getting her painted up And a couple goodies came in today
