What's needed for front disc brake conversion?

Hey guys... I have a 68' with front drum brakes and want to convert to disc brakes, what are the parts needed to do a successful conversion? I essentially want to lower it so will be going with a lowering spindle I assume? I'm looking to buy the parts pice by piece until I have all the necessary parts. Thanks!

WHERE PG SIGNS SENT YOU IS A FANTASTIC SITE--PREPARED BY LOTS AND LOTS OF TIME AND SEARCHING-EFFORT--I'd copy it & file it in a safe place!

Another thing, which I think those of who have done them would advise, would be to buy a donor truck or just a donor front end--'71-'87. It will have all you need all in one package; and with a bit of good fortune, you may find one at an enviable price--a great investment.

Searching on our forum--and include all models from 71 thru 87--could yield just what u need. Do Craiglist and Ebay also. Nothing beats all parts in one purchase. If $ is an object, consider this: should u buy it one piece at a time, you'll more than likely wind up with considerably more total investment. Finally, should u buy a complete truck, a junker, keep in mind the price a salvage yard would pay you for just the remaining weight--sometimes $300, +/-.

HTH,
Sam

Re: What's needed for front disc brake conversion?

The short version of the link I wrote:
BUY drop spindle for the year of truck you are working on!
EVERYTHING must match the year of spindles you buy.

In the OP's case,... buy 63-70 conversion spindles for your 1968 truck.
This will make your life so much easier.
Most source a 71-72 M/C and proportioning valve.
Personally,... I like to use and aftermarket aluminum M/C and prop valve from a quality company like Wilwood.
You will need to fabricate a few new steel brake lines.
I also like using the conversion rubber brake hoses from ECE.
Or just give www.earlyclassic.com a call for everything.
