91 Suburban to 78 frame will it work
I'm looking at buying a really clean 1991 GMC Suburban two wheel drive but with me being a four wheel drive guy I would like to put it on a four wheel drive chassis. I have a 1978 four wheel drive Sub. frame. My question is will the 91 body bolt on the 78 frame ( are all the body mounts in the same position & etc.) I know the trans tunnel would have to be changed. What other issues would be encountered. Also would it be easier to add the four wheel drive front axle components to the 2wd frame. I have lots of donor trucks and can do most of the fab myself so these aren't issues. Just looking to see what hidden issues I might be getting myself into? If this would be better suited in the FWD section mods please move.

Re: 91 Suburban to 78 frame will it work
I think it should work fine. I, too, have a '91 'burb that I want to convert to 4WD. I already found the floorboard piece and plenty of good 4x4 stuff, but don't want to have to weld in all the spring perches, etc. I know Blazers are a bit different since the footwell areas for back seat passengers changed (maybe with the '80 redesign?) but I don't know about 'burbs, I haven't been able to uncover any reasons it won't work.

Re: 91 Suburban to 78 frame will it work
suburban frames are wider . Ive never tried this but I know the bumpers are different mounts and the trailer hitches are different due to the width difference

Re: 91 Suburban to 78 frame will it work
I mis read I thought you were putting a pickup on a burb frame or vica versa if they are both suburbans the only thing I would do is to verify about the body mounts..
