My 73 pickup...parts hauler/work truck

I thought I'd share some pics of my 73 pickup...

I started out with a mostly original untouched pickup purchased new by a local farmer.

The first step was some typical maintenance... new brake rotors, calipers, lines, master cylinder, clean the fuel tank...

Next?...it's gotta be lower, take the bed off!

Belltech spindles and springs in the front, Flip kit in rear... and swapped the rear gear while I was at it.

Re: My 73 pickup...parts hauler/work truck

For the drivetrain...

It had to have a 5 speed. So I rounded up an S10 T5. I swapped in a Camaro input shaft to allow it to bolt up to a SBC with no adapter.

got some steel and threw together a trans crossmember to bolt the 5 speed in... I kept the factory bellcrank but replaced the rods with new ones with Heim joints.

I got a plain ol 350 crate motor and swapped in an Isky cam and got the motor together...

Hurst short throw shifter to get rid of that worn-out-truck-shifter-feel.

Re: My 73 pickup...parts hauler/work truck

I debated running steel wheels for a while, but in the end decided I just needed to go ahead and get the Americans to do the truck justice and give it the look I wanted...

pointed spokes like the old T70s "back in the day" was important to me...

Yeh!...Now we're gettin somewhere.

Re: My 73 pickup...parts hauler/work truck

staying with the subtle look, I wanted bumpers...The truck had a front bumper, but no rear... rear bumpers are impossible to find around here, so I had to bite the bullet and got a new one...

The plan was to find a nice used chrome front later on.

Hey, I am only about 80 miles from you. What headers are those? What Isky grind did you go with? What are the tire/wheel sizes?

Thanks

Are those center dump headers? I figured they would interfere with the mounts.

They are Sanderson street rod blockhuggers, good quality, but super short...meant purely for applications with no space.

At your front ride height, do you think a 255-60 tire would clear the front fender lips on 15x8 rally wheel (4.25" backspacing)?

How much drop did you get with the Belltech spindles and flip kit? And how does the flip kit work? I've never done anything with rear leafs other than remove/install them.

My 82 C10 (below) has 6.5" van rallys installed by some previous owner, but they sit inboard way too much. I had planned to go to wider rallys, but was gonna keep it at stock height until I saw yours!
