3M molding tape to install rear door seals?
Hi all,
I have new seals for the rear doors on the panel. These are to be glued on, which can be a PITA and messy. I was thinking about the 3M molding tape. This is the thin stuff used on late model cars/trucks to hold trim moldings on the side of the vehicle. I was thinking I could apply the tape to the door and then stick the rubber seals to that. It would make for a clean and simple install and having tried to removed this stuff before, it seems to stick really well. Has anyone else ever tried this method?

I have never tried this but it looks like 3M tape is on the Steele rubber peel n stick products.
http://www.steelerubber.com/peel-n-stick-extrusions I would try a test piece, let it sit for a few days then pull it apart to see what fails first. I hope this helps |

Re: 3M molding tape to install rear door seals?
The seals should insert in the hinge hole and stay without glue. So why are you using glue, I must of missed something.

Re: 3M molding tape to install rear door seals?
I think you are talking about the external hinge seal. I am talking about the seal that goes around the whole door, that seals to the body. These are normally glued on and I want to do it with less mess and hassle, hence trying to use the tape.
