EFI fuel tank/pump questions..
I know this has probably been asked before, I was just not able to find it. I am very green when it comes to fuel delivery.
I am looking to put in a new fuel tank. I currently has the OE tank with a carb. I am looking, in the future, to make it EFI. But for the time being, it will remain carbureted. I am just wanting to move the tank out of the cab, as a lot of people have. My question is can I put in an EFI tank and pump with a fuel pressure regulator and have supply correctly, then when I swap to injectors use the same tank and pump? Or would I have to get a new tank/pump for each situation? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You won't need to change the tank or pump if you plan it out. You won't want to use a high pressure EFI pump for your carburator. It's possible but it's a waste of time and money I think. A mechanical pump is the easiest and cheapest to run a carb setup that you know will be removed at some point..as they should be :P
I made a tank for my truck and I wanted to leave it carburated to make it easy to move around while I worked on my EFI setup after work each day. I installed the tank with the pump and level sender installed and since my return line comes within a couple inches of the bottom of the internal sump, I just used it as my feed line to a mechanical pump and carb for a while. I have had three engines, a carb and two different fuel injection systems on the truck and never had to drop the tank. You could also run your temporary carb feed to an existing drain fitting in the tank or have a fitting/pickup put in that you could just cap later when you hook up to your EFI pump.

I used a tank with a "fuel injection tray" but it came ready for an external pump. The cool thing is that I can install an " in tank" injection pump in the future.http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/pa...rod/prd173.htm

My engine driven pump does fine all by itself pulling from the tank I linked.

Most vehicles sold with mechanical fuel pumps have the tank near the rear axle. Old trucks are the exception having it in the passenger compartment.
Those tanks inc. tanks are pretty good. I have installed several of them with good results. You can just buy their EFI tank and pump setup with a Walboro pump and use the return line fitting as your feed for the carburator. Then when you switch to EFI you can use that line as your return without even removing it from the tank. Just hook up the pump wires (that you already ran to power and ground when you installed the tank) and the fuel feed line.

Use a boyd welding tank from AZ performance (ask for travis... he's great to deal with).
You can simply bolt in a pickup tube only where the 'EFI fuel pump' will eventually be.
