69 c10 swb budget swap

I have read more in the past two weeks than I have done in 10 years and decided it was time to do the swap in my 69 c10. I have a friend that is helping me acquire the drivetrane and harness since his family owns a junk yard and has ample access to most of the parts I will be needing. I had a few hours this morning and decided to pull the front clip off the truck. I had some help from my brother and his buddy as we were waiting on 1:00 to get up hay. Everything went pretty good and 600 bales later I figured what the heck I'll keep digging and see where I end up. An hour or so later we were steaming oysters and drinking beer with the satisfaction of having the drivetrane on the floor of the shop. The plan is to get the 5.3 and 4l60e setting in the truck next Saturday as I won't be working on it during the week. So far I have dirty dingo swap mounts for 73-80 something Chevy trucks. I like free advice and don't mind answering questions. I will do the best I can in documenting this build as it's my first swap and thread. I have decided on doing my own wiring harness and hope the engine is a dbw throttle. Will have more info first of the week on the year of the engine and such.

Re: 69 c10 swb budget swap

Got the frame mounts and motor mounts installed and sprayed some paint on the frame to hold down the rust for a bit. Who knows how to get the pics straight?

I haven't messed with much. My baby boy was born 2 weeks ago and the weather hasn't been too great either. Hope to get it running by Christmas or New Years. I will make sure to post updates.

Re: 69 c10 swb budget swap

I found a suburban that had the dash out already. It's really long but I'm gonna use it for now. Still have to fab the bracket on the truck to make it work. Will try to post pics soon

Re: 69 c10 swb budget swap

I haven't been able to do as much as I had wanted but have got some work done. I have been fabricating the brackets for the fuel tank and clearancing everything. I am using a 15 gal tank out of a 91 wrangler. For the fuel pump I have a walbro 255 in line. For the fuel line I am using fragola push lock fittings. 8an feed and 6an return.

Re: 69 c10 swb budget swap

How easily did your engine mounts/stands bolt up? I went to test fit the 73-87 mounts I sourced from a yard and I can get the 2 bolts on the frame to bolt up, but there is no adjustment back or forth, the bolts are both on the inside of the oval holes. The rear lower bolt on the crossmember lines up perfectly and there is adjustment there if the upper frame bolts had any adjustment room. Furthermore, there is no hole for the front lower hole on the crossmember. Do I need to drill one? any help would be appreciated.

BTW...congrats on the addition to the family, and nice progress on the truck so far!

Re: 69 c10 swb budget swap

I only usd 3 bolts in mine. You have to leave each on loose and start them. It's a bit tricky butt when you get them in an air gun will pull them tight. Hindsight I wish I would have slotted the holes down 3/8 of an in and it would have made the engine install easier.

Re: 69 c10 swb budget swap

Thanks for the info! I will lengthen the bolt hoes that mount on top of the frame tho help out with install.

You used Dirty Dingo mounts, correct? Were they sliders? Did they move the engine forward or backward? How is your firewall clearance? In another post you mentioned needing to lower the engine mounts, can you please elaborate? Would you have been better off with the car mounts that dont hold the engine up as high?

Thanks for the answers, your project is the closest to my plan that I can find so far.

Re: 69 c10 swb budget swap

Yes, I used the dd sliding mounts. Plenty of firewall clearance. I didn't slot the frame holes for the engine stand mounts (73-87) so I had to pry up on the rubber motor mounts to get the bolts in. It was much only 1/8" or so. I have the engine slid forward since I'm using electric fans and running a/c. I wouldn't want to go with any lower mounts just for oil pan clearance. Any more questions let me know. I hope I've answered these for ya.

Re: 69 c10 swb budget swap

Thanks for all of the help!!! It really answers allot of questions I am having currently in the planning faze of my project. I think I am going with a cts-v pan so I can get the engine an extra inch lower and use home made clam-shell adapters. I think I found a line on '10 Camaro manifolds.

Cant wait to see your harness photos!
