Quick fuel carb

Anyone use a quick fuel carb vs the quadrajet I'm having troubles getting my quadrajet to idle right and get it set right

Most carb problems are in fact timing problems.
What exactly is it doing?
What's your initial timing set at?

Around 10 or 11. It acts like the choke is on but I know for sure its not i plugged the choke off just so I could check things out

Try bumping your timing up or hooking the vac advance to manifold port. You might be idling on the power circuit.
Do your mixture screws react normally?

Go buy a 950 quick fuel it solved my issues........

I un plugged my vacuum advance and it idled better before it would idle like the choke was on

Are you meaning the idle speed changes?

Yes the rpms will go back down. But when it's plugged in the rpms will stay up like the choke is on and it's getting horrible gas mileage I went 116 miles after I filled it up and it's empty

Rpm speeds up because of more timing.
That's the way it works.
Have you looked inside the carb when it's running?
Might be flooding.

I think it is running rich so will I be fine running without the advance

Should the vacuum advance be hooked to the carb or intake manifold

To the carb.
You have both ported and manifold vac ports there.

Using QuickFuel carb, on a 350. Runs very nice, lots of adjustability. Also is fairly efficient, very close to best carbs. It is a hot rod series carb.

When I un plug the vacuum advance and not plug the line the engine runs the same as when I plug the line. When I plug the vacuum advance back into the distributor the rpms run up again. With the vacuum advance in plugged from the distributor the rpms are still higher than what I set the idle at before I tap the gas. around the diaphragm on the distributor has a vacuum leak I found that when I hit it with carb cleaner but it seems like I have another vacuum leak somewhere else as well

I think my quadrajet is messed up and I have a vacuum leak around my intake manifold. I'm thinking about going with either a holley or quick fuel carb and an eldelbrock intake and hope for the best

Go with a 650 quick fuel ss vac secondary. I like the holley ultra double pumpers but that carb isn't for everybody. Stay away from the holley avenger series carb they need lots of tuning out of the box and even then most are still junk. The only reason i went the the holley ultra was because i couldn't stand the red on the quick fuel ss double pumper.

x2. Stay away from the street avenger series, I have personal experience. Spent well over a day swapping jets around and tuning and never had any luck with the electric choke.
My engine builder uses strictly Quick Fuels and hes been in the game for 50 years.

I'm about ready to throw the towel in on this truck. It all started chasing a pop and crack out the exhaust found out it was a cam shaft replaced that and now the new distributor has a vacuum leak and there is a leak somewhere else. And now it has an anti freeze leak I'm ready to call it quits

Don't give up on it!! You will get it figured out and will feel a lot better since you where able to figure it out and fid it yourself.

I am using the QuickFuel HR-680-VS, with electric choke, carb. My local engine builder set up my carb jetting. As mentioned above, very efficient carb.

I just don't know how so much could have changed I took the carb and intake off set it to the side and put it back on. It ran great before I took it off. Hell it runs worse now than it did with a bad cam

Did you replace all the gaskets? Did you mark the intake or firewall so the distributor went back into the same position? If i where you i would set the engine to top dead center and then position the rotor on the distributor to the #1 firing position and then re-install the distributor. Check to make sure your plug wires are in the correct positions. Start with one thing at a time and then move on starting with the easiest stuff first. Is it possible that the valves where not adjusted properly? How much bigger of a cam did you put in than the one that was in the motor? You did replace the lifters with the cam didnt you?

I replaced the cam lifters rods rockers timing chain and timing gear. It could be very possible that the rockers aren't right and i'll pull the distributor
