47rh in c20?

I havent seen anyon e use this transmission in a swap but id like to save 2k and not buy an adapter and controller. If the nv 5 speed fits the 47rh should too correct? I undertsand i will need to get a custom drive line but at the very least it would a cheaper option. Any builds i missed or advice?

I have a 1st gen 12v

Thanks!!!

Re: 47rh in c20?

Lots of information on how to build a 47RH/RE on www.CompetitionDiesel.com user "Big Blue24" has very detailed and picture filled posts.

The 47RH is ideal in a conversion/swap because 1-3 are shifted hydraulically, and you can control TC lock up and over drive by toggle switches.

I'm currently trying to find a RH core to build and swap into my 97 Dodge in place of the NV4500, but the RH's are a little harder to find only being used for a couple of years vs the RE's.

Re: 47rh in c20?

Why not just use a 47RE/48RE? The electronics are stupid simple. And as a benefit the PCM will control the Alternator & Grid Heater.

The only major difference between the RH & RE is.... The RH uses a Hydraulic Governor, The RE uses Electronic Governor Solenoid & Governor Pressure feedback Sensor.

It is relatively easy to change the 91-93 A518 from a first gen Cummins into a 47RH. Better buy a few unloved ones, because as this gets out, they are going to go up.............

Enjoy.

Re: 47rh in c20?

Because the RH doesn't require electronics or a PCM to work so its much cheaper to use.

Re: 47rh in c20?

Dieselwrencher used the 47rh on my 89 GMC suburban. It's been working great. 2 manual switches 1 for overdrive 1 for torque converter.

OK, I was just throwing it out there, Though the PCM's are not that expensive, A PCM & harness can be had cheap from wreaking yards.

47rh's are in 94 and 95 V10 and Cummins trucks. 46rh's are in a lot of gas 360 and some 318 93-95 trucks. I've missed out on several 46rh's I would have baught for parts but didn't need them at the time. I have a 47rh in my wife's excursion, we put one in my Dad's 91 F-350, and I just put one in my Longhorn. I really like them. As far as the drive shafts, the 47rh ones will be shorter on the front and too long on the rear compared to a NV4500.

Re: 47rh in c20?

If you go with a 47rh, here is a really affordable controller I came across on another forum that may be the ticket for controlling these.

Re: 47rh in c20?

A friend of mine turned me on to these, saying that he's used them before and they work well.

That only controls lock up from what I'm seeing. You'd still have to do something for OD. It might work on an A518 though. Use the controller to operate the overdrive.

He was planning on running two, one for the lockup, one for the OD.

Re: 47rh in c20?

Have you seen the compushift mini for the 47rh's now? I'll post a link later. They're only $350.
