Project 71 GMC is finally finished

It took several years, with countless problems, setbacks and delays, and I lost track of the dollars, but I'm still glad that I was able to rescue this tired old girl from the crusher. Here are some before and after pictures.

Thumbs up Re: Project 71 GMC is finally finished

That's a fantastic transformation, just goes to show what can be done given enough talent, folding money, and hard work.

The seats are aftermarket buckets with fold down center section, and the tilt column is out of a chevy van.

Is that what GMC stands for? I always thought it was "gotta mechanic coming"

For those of us with these old trucks, it means "Get More Cash".

Re: Project 71 GMC is finally finished

Thanks for all the kind words. I'm extremely glad to finally get it done. It's not a perfect "show truck" by any means, and was never intended to be. It was built to be driven daily. I put it back pretty much stock, except for a relocated gas tank, a nicer seat, one piece windows, and electric windows and door locks. Mechanically, It is just the stock 350 with a slightly improved cam, HEI and edlebrock intake and carb. I did replace the TH350 with a 700r4 trans and swapped out the 3:08 gears for 3:73 for improved driveability and maybe slightly better fuel mileage. ( 10 mpg instead of 8). Once again, thanks for all the kind words, and to all those who are doing a restoration and getting discouraged, my advice is just keep on keeping on and never giver up. It's like eating an elephant. You just have to take it one bite at a time.
