finish it or move on?

I've had this 68 Chevy for a little while now and I'm having a hard time deciding if I should finish it or let it go to build the 54 I just picked up? The truck is a right hand drive on porterbuilt so it would make a pretty cool truck but I'm pretty much in love with the 54. What do you guys think?

Well, this is the truck forum, after all. And, the white one is cool. But, if I had the green one *and* the '54,
I'd sell the white one (or stash it for later) and build the '54.

'54's not my *favorite year* on the 210 Sedans. But very, very nice.

I miss my '52. And, I'd do almost anything to get her back. But I'd always keep my truck.

Rendering (mine was more yellow-yellow, but close):

I love these 67-72 trucks buuuuuuuut since you already have one built that looks killer I'd build the 54. Don't really see many slammed 210s in Wyoming.

I'm not doing any cutting on the body. I paid quite a bit to get a rust free patina car. I do plan on slamming it on mob steels with a ls though

I say finish the truck. I only say that because if you try to sell now you're not going to get near as much as you would a finished truck. THEN sell it to work on the car.

Re: finish it or move on?

Ive never heard anyone say, "glad I got rid of that truck"...I say, Keep'em both and finish both...The truck looks nearly done anyway. Just get it done and use it for a 54 parts runner. I'd sooner get rid of the wifey, the kids, and the dog before I got rid of one of my trucks...Bottom line is, you are the only one you really have to please. PS. Kids are all grown and gone, wifey left me years ago, she took the dog and the dog took the TV...
Whats the urgency? Keep'em all, wife and kids too...

From someone who's done it, unless your old and you don't think your going to live much longer. Finish it! Keep the 54 but finish the truck, theirs no hurry. I've traded off vehicles and sold them off because the grass was greener on the other side of the fence and I was in a hurry. Now you might consider a place to keep your iron dry, if storage is a problem but keep what you have if possible.

I agree 100%. I sold the Mustang to get a jump start on the truck. While I think I made the right decision it would have been nice to have a driver while I build the truck. Plus I had it for over 12 years. Actually about half the vehicles I owned I wished I would have never parted with.

Re: finish it or move on?

well i would like to finish it but i really want to get moving on the 54. i think it would be a cool truck but its hard to round up enough money to move 3 projects along! i might end up keeping it for now and just driving the 54 for a few years until i can tear into it. this is what im looking to do to the 54 and the 68

Re: finish it or move on?

Crazy to see that you are asking about it on this forum as I was looking at it on CL not too long ago. I think you could get a decent pile of cash to throw in the 54. After all, that's what you want to do. You can always build the 54 and later down the road find another truck to build

If I had something as clean as the '54 I'd have a really hard time doing anything to it. I say drive and finish the truck.

Re: finish it or move on?

Finish the truck. You've got a pile of cash tied up in it and you'll take a bath selling it as a project. But, if you finish it you'll sell it for some real money.

Take it from me, I built a 54 Chevy from the ground up and daily drove it for many years. It's gonna cost you a bundle. By the time you put a decent engine in it, swap the rearend, transmission, front suspesnion and all of that, it's gonna get expensive.

The problem with a 54 Chevy is that they suck as stock cars. Crappy front suspension. Crappy 235 inline six engine. If you decide to swap to a better engine you have to swap the tranny too. Problem is, the tranny is mated to the rearend with the torque tube driveline so now you've got to swap the rearend too.

I did Fatmans Mustang 2 on my car, stock crate 350 Goodwrench engine, auto tranny, Nova rearend, Posies rear springs, converted to 12 volts, Borgesson steering mated to the stock column.

Now, when I was done I drove it for many, many thousands of miles over a long time span. It just recently popped up on Craiglist locally ten years after I sold it. Still going....

Re: finish it or move on?

Give me the truck!

Actually if you can find a buyer that will get you as much as possible to reasonably recoup your expences then only you can make the call.

I'm not a car guy but my other half....she would love it.
