Wow. Original hinge maybe. Maybe parts house wrote on there too. I don't think
Mine had anything under there when
I took them off.

Re: factory chalk marks on hood hing.

I really doubt that is a factory marking, looks like a typical yard marking, I think the hinge was replaced with one from a wreck. Why would the factory mark a hinge with any of those things? Year isn't relevant, all the trucks on the line are the same year, model isn't relevant, all clips are the same whether they are C30s or Blazers or GMCs for that matter, and I hope they know which hinge is left or right on the assembly line.

Agree.

Also - normally we would use a grease pencil as opposed to a paint pen.

Agree with others. Paint pen over surface rust = junk yard/swap meet/yard sale piece.

Re: factory chalk marks on hood hing.

See this why I posted the pic I'm trying to find out some things on my blazer.I did also notice over spray on the underside of the hood.the other thing that makes me think is why does it say the year on it.I have a lot of receipts from this blazer and nothing about a crash but I also notice a slight difference in color on the fender compared to the door.maybe the original owner is still alive?

A lot can happen in 40+ years, it may not even be an accident per say, it could be a guy trying to take the hood off by himself and bending the hood, fender and hinge when he has one side unbolted and not the other.
