Looking for ideas on brakes/boosters/masters
I want to shave my firewall this winter and I'm looking for ideas on what you guys did with the big old bulky brake booster and master cylinder. I have a 73+ complete brake system. The prop valve is located down on the front cross member, just like it would be on the square body trucks. What I would like to see are ideas and solutions to having a cleaner firewall. IE smaller boosters, relocated boosters/masters etc. I would also like to get some ideas on how to plumb the brakes in order to keep as much is hidden as possible. Thanks!

Re: Looking for ideas on brakes/boosters/masters
I used a 85 booster and master cyl, it sits pretty high, might clear fenders. At first I was worried it wouldn't clear the hood. The other option is a hydro boost, I have seen lots of guys do that, and then tuck the booster under the truck up in the frame.

Re: Looking for ideas on brakes/boosters/masters
I'm running a late model astro van booster flush mounted, I would guess its around 9" and a mid 80's aluminum c10 master cylinder. right now my brake lines are stock from a 85 c10 and my prop valve is mounted on the front frame crossmember. when I replace my body mounts I'm going to pull the front clip and run new ss brake lines, they will come straight back from the master cyl. then down the firewall and run inside the frame to the prop valve. I think that would be about as clean as you could get them without running a under floor street rod style master cyl mount.

Re: Looking for ideas on brakes/boosters/masters
Thanks for the info hahah. That was going to be my next question. What does everyone use for hydro boost? Any part sources or pictures of installation?

Re: Looking for ideas on brakes/boosters/masters
I use hydroboost because of a low vacuum issue. I didn't want to mount a spare tank to keep the vacuum up.
A hydrobooster is also much smaller than your standard 11" power booster, so you get a lot more wiggle room in the engine bay. I fab my systems with factory boosters/masters, but a great bolt on solution is here: http://www.hydratechbraking.com/ |

Have you considered CaptainFab's booster bracket? It tucks the booster closer to the firewall and allows the use of universal boosters.

Re: Looking for ideas on brakes/boosters/masters
I took a 1/4 inch plate and fabbed my own hydro to firewall plate. Depending on years they used hydro boost on the factory 71 up one ton up chassis. I held one in my hands one time. It had inverted flare fittings. You can make your own hyd lines at home from stainless braided hyd line and hyd stainless an fittings. So you can do any style ends you want. I used a hydro from a dmax on my 72 blazer, umm wait I first used one front the 80s on my 454 solid roller motor that had no vac then dmax . Making the tang in the plate req me to finalize the hole with a half round file
