Test Drove a WRX today.
So, after im done with my truck I was planning on getting a 98+ LS1 Camaro/TA to drive and mod up. But I was bored with my buddies and we decided to go test drive cars. My buddy is a WRX nut, but he doesnt know how to drive stick, so I drove. Man is that sucker fast, the turbo is REALLY nice. 2.0L of turbo'd power vs 5.7L of N/A power. They cost about the same to mod and get the kind of power im looking for.
Basically 3k into the motor on both of the cars gets you deep into the 12s. That WRX really sticks to the pavement though, its a really nice handling freeway monster, yet the Camaro is a TQ monster. Hrmmmm... am I going to go to the dark side of imports? Who knows

Great performance in an ugly design, IMO. Besides, F-bodies get twice the attention and respect than a WRX will.

My cousin sold his 00 Corvette in order to get a WRX. He picked up a WRX for $18k...it's ok..I would much rather have my vette (87) with a few cheap mods. The WRX is nice..but nothin like a Vette or SS Camaro.

dump the clutch in that wrx off the line and then you'll see whats its really capable off. it launches so much harder than an f-body will, unless you stuff huge slicks under it. awd cars are fun off the line, lok at 60 ft times that they put out

Yup. The next car I get is going to be Fuel Injected and maybe now Forced Induction. Im going to get to tune my damned car with my laptop. Its truely an awesome thing.
There are many more performance options with the Camaro though, its kinda tough for the WRX. You have to basically get boost controllers and bolt on a bigger turbo and some bigger injectors to get performance out of em.

1.) Manual or Electronic Boost Controller; Set it @ 20psi 2.) Cold Air Intake (Preferably custom) 3.) Solid 2½" mandrel bent race exhaust (Yes, I mean take out EVERY restriction possible; cat(s)/muffler(s)) 4.) Aftermarket Up-Pipe (From I/C to Turbo) All those mods should be right around $1000, and trust me..that little WRX will FLY! (If you can drive, you'd prolly be in the lower portion of the 12's on a cool night) |

I will race a $3k modded WRX from 20mph up any day of the week and hand it its arse!! lol Those cars have nothing unless its from a dead stop. Neat cars..I was gonna buy one but they are totally gutless up to 4000 rpms. No fun unless its in the twisties or snowing. I know plenty of people with them and have raced plenty of them as well. They are in the Honda category still when it comes to street racing.

I thought you were talking about racing one with your truck. I forgot about the TA. Heh. It doesnt have too much turbo lag, its a pretty quick little car and yes, dumping the clutch tons will break parts really quickly.

Yes the supra does own all when it comes to imports, and imagine that, its a RWD I6, not a FWD I4
You think the WRX is fun, go try the STI version. No 227hp there, o no. How about 300hp and 300lbs/ft of torque. Yeah baby! Thats low 13's bone stock, just like a SS camaro. Of course some of it is due to its insane 60' times from the AWD, but hey low 13's are low 13's. Dave is right, they don't like to be launched that hard off the line on pavment, they were never designed to be. Those are 100% rally inspired cars. The EVO is almost exactly the same as the STI, only its a cheap piece of crap. O yeah and it needs 19psi of boost from its 1980's designed 2.0L to get only 270hp.

Oh hey.....Im not doggin the WRX...I have respect for it...for the size of the motor and all. Its basically a Porsche Boxter motor. But its just not in the class as some try and put it in. The 1/4 mile times are mostly because of the out of the hole advantage. Hell look at the EVO....Quick at the track...That is it. Stock Gen 1 Eclipse's own them on a roll and we know how fast they arent.
The new STi Is a lot better and a great looking car. It has some funk to back it up this year....but way overpriced. My money if it were to be spent on a 4banger would be going the way of Dodge and the SRT-4. Its one bad Mamma Jamma!! Way underrated and under 20k. It will run great...just watch. hehe.

Dave, you do realize the EVO, GEN I eclipse, and SRT-4 all use the same I4, 2.0L motor [code: 4G63] right?
And baron- I'm allowed to talk imports. I'm the residential honda man, says so in my sig
