ammmeter fuses - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Does anyone know of any harm eliminating the two inline fuse for the ammeter? One of my is broke so I wired around both of them for now. Cannot seem to find the small fuse holders if I need to replace them.

Disclaimer Disclaimer Banana Fanna Foe Famer: I do NOT recommend bypassing fuses for any reason other than troubleshooting!!!

Probably the only danger to bypassing the fuses is gauge damage. The wiring would go pretty quickly if it shorted to ground. There is a slight chance you could fill the cab with smoke whilst driving through a crowded intersection too......

Also I don't know if they are part of the shunt resistance. it could cause gauge inaccuracy as well but so will 40+ years of wear and tear. And it's not like those gauges were precision by any means.

I believe they are SFE-4 fuses.

If you are needing the actual fuse holders (little footballs), I sure someone here has some spares and can help you out.

I do not recommend running the way you described, (wires tied together without fuses). They are there for a reason. You can damage the gauge and the printed circuit board for the guage cluster.

I spent $10 at the parts store the other day and bought some blade style fuse holders and some 4 amp fuses because one of my original fuse holders was missing and the fuse was rusted and broken in the remaining one. Not factory, but it will accomplish the same goal.
