Pinion Shaft lock bolt broken
I am in the process of switching my axles out on my 12 bolt rearend and when I attempted to remove the Pinion shaft lock bolt it was broken in half. So from what I hear its pretty common to have this happen. So my question is there any tips or tricks you guys may have done to make this as painless as possible to remove it.

Re: Pinion Shaft lock bolt broken
There is an extractor kit to remove the broken bolt.

Re: Pinion Shaft lock bolt broken
That's a cool kit, file away for future reference.
Sometimes you can use a magnet to pull the broken part of the pin out. If you can find a long, skinny, powerful one! You can put your hand around the case, middle finger on backside of spider gear shaft and thumb on top and rock the shaft as you are trying to magnetize it out.

The extractors work great. I fought mine for 3 days, ordered the kit and had it out 15 minutes after I received the extractor kit. You can get them at Amazon too. LockDoc

Good luck. |
