305 carb issue, need help
305 in my 85 sierra, rochester quadrajet 4bbl carb. The high idle just recently started to stick. If I move the lever thats circled in green down, it idles at normal range. As soon as I hit the throttle, the lever moves itself back up and sticks(sticking the throttle). I think the lever circled in green is a part of the thing circled in red? Not to sure how to fix this issue. Any feedback is appreciated, thanks.

Re: 305 carb issue, need help
The lever in green circle is the high idle cam and counterweight.
If you hook the wire back up to the electric choke it'll work like it supposed to. |

Re: 305 carb issue, need help
Thanks for the reply, I forgot to mention I unplugged the wire to see if it would make a deference. So the high idle cam counterweight is sticking, do you know how I fix that?

Re: 305 carb issue, need help
You need to lean your choke down. THe black cap is riveted on. You need to replace the rivets with screws and then you can rotate the cap cw to lean it. Turning the cap ccw richens it.
I adjust mine twice a year. Richer in winter, leaner in the summer. Look here for info on that. http://www.vetteprojects.com/kstyer/quadrajet_3.htm You could also spray some carb and choke cleaner on all the choke parts. |

I know with my '84 truck the engine has to be running before the choke wire energizes. It has a oil pressure switch in-line.
